Thanks for inviting me to be a speaker at this years Civil Mediation Council (CMC) annual conference. Over the past 30 plus years, my work in #mediation, #coaching and #retorativejustice has afforded me a unique insight into the workings of many organisations across sectors and geographies. It’s not always been a pretty sight. Legacy #humanresources and #management approaches are defined by punitive systems, retributive processes, reductive mindsets, performative remedies and a prevailing focus on blame and punishment. All of which create an atmosphere of fear and uncertainty (and undermine individual and business performance). The concept of the #consumeremployee is an exciting one as it reframes the #socialcontract and the #psychologicalcontract at work. These two contracts have often been framed as power, control and authority by the dominant force - the employer. As we enter a new era of work, #power is being shared, #control is being replaced by #collaboration and #authority is transforming into #agency. I look forward to sharing examples of organisations who are #TransformingWork by creating a #peopleandculture focus rather than a focus on legacy #HR (reactive, transactional) and #leadership (status and power) This is neither naïveté nor idealism It’s #transformationalism
