Is it alignment or agreement? Does your team agree with everything you say? That is not trust my friends. That might be survival. As a leader you are always #training people in how to talk to you. *Do you reward candor or run from it? *Do you ask for input and override it because your way is better? *Do you say I have an open door policy and want feedback from you on how I am doing as a leader (and then defend yourself)? All of these things tell your team the psychological safety here has conditions. Reflect on this: *When is the last time someone gave me real pushback? *What did I do with it? *What might I be missing because people filter the truth for me? *In what ways might I be reinforcing silence? *What can I do better to build a culture of #Trust? #Coaching #Leadership #Change #LeadershipDevelopment #TalentManagement #Learning
Psychological safety isn’t built through slogans; it’s earned daily. Leaders grow when they stop rewarding politeness over truth.
It' so important to be aware of group thinking or anything that resembles it.
Silence isn’t always agreement it’s often self-protection. This is a powerful reflection for any leader.
Leaders should always pay attention to what’s not being said!! I remember a pre meeting conversation where we were all in alignment. When we got into the room with two executives and heard their views, everyone changed their view, accept me! (Of course!) I was shut down.
