🔒 Experts warn: ransomware is evolving thanks to AI and is not disappearing, only changing form. 💻⚠️ 📌 Artificial intelligence is driving a dangerous metamorphosis in the ransomware landscape. Cybercriminals no longer just encrypt data; they now use more sophisticated techniques, such as double extortion, where in addition to locking systems, they threaten to leak sensitive information if the ransom is not paid. 🤖 AI allows attackers to automate and perfect their methods, making attacks faster, more targeted, and harder to detect. This includes the creation of polymorphic malware, which changes its code to evade traditional defenses. 🛡️ Companies must strengthen their cybersecurity strategies by implementing advanced detection and response solutions, as well as training their teams in awareness of phishing and other social engineering techniques. 📊 Additionally, it is crucial to have robust backups and disaster recovery plans, as total prevention is no longer sufficient in an environment where threats are constantly evolving. ⚠️ PromptLock: The First AI-Powered Ransomware Emerges Cybersecurity researchers have identified PromptLock, the world’s first AI-driven ransomware, marking a new era in cyber threats. 🔍 What makes it different: Uses AI to dynamically generate malicious code and adapt to defenses in real-time. Employs intelligent evasion techniques, making detection significantly harder. Capable of tailoring ransom notes and attack vectors to each victim for maximum psychological pressure. 💡 Why this matters: This is a paradigm shift in ransomware. Instead of relying on static code, attackers can now leverage AI to create adaptive, resilient, and highly targeted campaigns. ✅ Defensive steps organizations must consider: Invest in AI-driven threat detection to keep pace with evolving malware. Implement zero trust architectures to limit lateral movement. Train employees to recognize increasingly personalized phishing attempts. Regularly test incident response plans against AI-enhanced scenarios. The emergence of PromptLock proves one thing: AI is now a weapon in the hands of attackers. Defenders must innovate just as fast — or faster. #CyberSecurity #AI #Ransomware #PromptLock #ThreatIntelligence #InfoSec #Malware #CyberAttack #FutureOfCybersecurity

🚨 AI Meets Ransomware: The Case of PromptLock 🚨 💎Cybersecurity researchers at ESET recently uncovered an experimental ransomware, PromptLock, that takes ransomware innovation to a new frontier: artificial intelligence. 💎Unlike traditional ransomware, PromptLock uses the Ollama API to connect with a large language model (gpt-oss:20b) and dynamically generate malicious Lua scripts. These scripts handle: 🛡️ File system enumeration 🛡️Data inspection & exfiltration 🛡️File encryption 💎Instead of AES or RSA (common in ransomware), PromptLock opts for the SPECK 128-bit cipher an unusual choice more often seen in lightweight IoT/RFID applications. While ESET emphasizes this appears to be a proof-of-concept (not yet seen in the wild), it highlights a critical shift: 🌐AI-powered malware can adapt, evade, and lower the skill barrier for cybercrime. 🧲This isn’t the first example. In July, CERT-UA reported LameHug malware, an LLM-powered tool leveraging Hugging Face and Alibaba APIs to craft Windows data theft commands on the fly. 🔍 Key Takeaway for Security Professionals: The fusion of AI + ransomware shows us what the future of threats may look like. Cross-platform, flexible, evasive, and harder to anticipate. Defensive strategies must evolve beyond static detections to include AI-driven security, behavior analytics, and proactive threat hunting. The appearance of PromptLock may be experimental today but it’s a warning shot for tomorrow. 👉 How do you think SOCs and defenders should prepare for the AI-driven malware era? waiting to see you comments below 👇 #CyberSecurity #AI #Ransomware #ThreatIntelligence #SOC #Infosec Rock Lambros, Dr Iretioluwa Akerele, Dr. Darren Death, Amarachi Okeke, Charles Stack, MPH, BCES, M.ASCE, Dr. Aryendra Dalal Debra Baker, CISSP CCSP, João Mesquita, Cody Rivers, CISSP, Confidence Staveley, Racheal Popoola, Michelle Pupoh, Fouad EL Din Abdul Khaleq, Hameed Kareem, Diana Kelley, Daniel Manley.
