EUROLAB Secretary Laura Martin attended the IMEKO Joint Conference TC8-TC11-TC24 in Torino supported by ASSOTIC, EUROLAB, INRiM - Istituto Nazionale di Ricerca Metrologica and Politecnico di Torino. The conference started today, 15 September, gathering experts both from industry and academia, covering different topics such as ‘Traceability in Metrology’ (IMEKO TC8), ‘Measurement in Testing, Inspection and Certification’ (IMEKO TC11), and ‘Chemical Measurements’ (IMEKO TC24). The conference covers topics including certified reference materials, digitalisation in traceability, digital twins, and quality management & conformity assessment in the TIC Sector. In addition, issues related to climate change and energy transition will be examined with case studies and applied methodologies. Laura Martin represented EUROLAB in the opening ceremony, with key insights on our activities around the main EUROLAB priorities, digitalisation, sustainability, accreditation & standardisation and the European quality infrastructure, including project opportunities, parnerships, representation & sharing of best practices and technical expertise. While such collaboration increases the likelihood of product success, it also intensifies competition, leading to reduced profits. Empirically, the study finds that active, long-term common owners with sizable stakes, particularly in the pharmaceutical industry, are most likely to appoint common directors. Like many others, I was truly delighted to attend the IRCOBI conference and exchange ideas with safety professionals from all corners of the world. It's always a pleasure to engage in both scientific and informal discussions within such a friendly and enthusiastic atmosphere. From this 2025 conference, my key takeaways are: - The Virtual Testing project is clearly keeping many people busy, likely due to tight deadlines! * Among other challenges, establishing a standardized workflow, from pre-processing to post-processing, still needs to be addressed. * While many Human Body Models (HBMs) appear to be quite effective (see Florent Auriault et al. in the proceedings ;-), experimental data input remains critical for accurate injury prediction. * However, to account for the wide diversity of human morphologies, a "fair enough" status for HBMs might suffice to provide valuable insights for safety system manufacturers. - Anthropomorphic Test Devices (ATDs) are far from obsolete, continuing to benefit from new experimental data and innovative advancements. I very much look forward to crossing paths with you again, whether through scientific research projects or future conferences!
