Hi, I'm John Palfrey, president of the John D and Catherine T MacArthur Foundation. Philanthropy has enjoyed a freedom to give throughout American history, and we believe we need to continue to have that freedom and that there is no way in which politicians should decide what we can give to. Whether it's the Catholic Charities, whether it is a philanthropy like MacArthur Foundation, whether it's a Community Foundation in any one of the 50 states in this country. That's in part because there have been reductions in funding from other sources, including the government, and that there is. Stress on nonprofits across the country. So this is the moment not to kneecap those of us who are able to do something about it but in fact to support us, to give us continued freedoms and continued support to enable good work in every one of the communities across America. In this moment, philanthropy is stepping up and we're stepping up together. We are arm in arm to support Americans and that's across ideological differences that is across all kinds of racial and gender and other differences that we may have we are stepping up to say we are here to support and. To be part of the fabric of what America is, and we are very excited to be able to do that work unfettered by the government.
