MacArthur Foundation’s Post

MacArthur Foundation reposted this

Charitable foundations have had the freedom to give throughout American history. We need to continue to have that freedom, and politicians should not decide what or who we can give to. Now is not the moment to kneecap those of us who are helping communities, but to give us continued freedom to enable good work in every community across the country.  I’m proud that MacArthur Foundation is supporting the right to give in alignment with our values.  We use that freedom to support independent voices in nonprofit reporting and storytelling, to invest in people in Chicago who show up daily to meet needs and build change, and to foster work that reduces greenhouse gas emissions and improves people’s lives, health, and economic wellbeing in the transition to clean energy.  And we do much more in our work to build toward a more hopeful future where we can all thrive.  #UniteInAdvance

Philanthropic Foundations are a force for good and we are that force because of the freedoms we have and the bridges we build - there is the individual, the government, the corporate sector and the nonprofit sector (the bridge). We as nonprofit leaders advocate and serve, make markets work, inspire ambassadors, foster nonprofit networks, master the art of adaptation and transformation and share leadership. We have,"no permanent friends, no permanent enemies, just permanent interests." Freedom allows us to do better work, which helps us all do better.
