🔎 Solar modules are a cornerstone of the energy transition, but did you know that they're surprisingly difficult to recycle? Most solar modules end up shredded into pieces and are sent to landfills or low-value applications. Not really a "green" end-of-life use for such a green technology... 💡 IP FAB's mission, within the PVDEBOND consortium, is to change that. We equip newly fabricated solar modules with debonding-on-demand chemistry, such that a module's components can be separated easily at the end of its life, enabling true recycling. We will present this technology in a poster at next week's EU PVSEC conference in Bilbao! I am thrilled to share that our research article titled “Optimized Hydroxyapatite–Carbon Nanotube Composite Electrodes for Enhanced Supercapacitor Performance” has been published in the journal #ChemistrySelect (Wiley). In this study, we developed composite electrodes by integrating hydroxyapatite (HAp), a sustainable material, with carbon nanotubes (CNTs), recognized for their exceptional electrical conductivity. By optimizing this hybrid system, we achieved a significant enhancement in specific capacitance, energy density, and charge-discharge performance of supercapacitors. Our findings highlight how renewable and conductive materials can be combined to create eco-friendly, high-performance energy storage systems, addressing the dual challenge of sustainability and growing energy demands. 🗣️Researchers from IQUEMA – Institute of Chemistry for Energy and the Environment participated in the 76th Annual Meeting of the International Society of Electrochemistry, held from September 7 to 12, 2025, in Mainz (Germany). 👥 Adrián Licari Pedraza and Alejandro López Chías from the FQM-175 research group, presented oral and poster communications on post-lithium technologies, metal–sulfur batteries, and battery recycling. We are delighted to announce that the project ‘Innovative catalytic materials for plasma reforming of biogas from anaerobic digestion of food waste’ has been funded by the Henry Royce Institute. In this project, Prof Davide Dionisi and Dr Panagiotis Kechagiopoulos will investigate their innovative process to convert any biodegradable waste into renewable and sustainable hydrogen. The project will investigate the coupling for anaerobic digestion and plasma reforming and will carry out a technoeconomic assessment of the process. This exciting project is a collaboration between the School of Engineering at the University of Aberdeen and the company Goal7.
