Good tip. I always add /w:1 /r:1 If robocopy encounters a locked file then by default it will retry every thirty seconds for 1 million retries. That's nearly a year. I'd rather it fail fail fast and move on. Use the /log option so you can check afterwards what didn't copy and take action if required.
Windows Tip: copying files using Windows Explorer is single threaded, so you'll take a huge performance hit when copying lots of tiny files or very large files. However, Windows has a built-in utility called robocopy which is multi-threaded. example command: robocopy "C:\src" "C:\dst" /MT:16 /E This will recursively copy files and directories from C:\src to C:\dst using 16 threads. You can also use option /J to enabled unbuffered I/O, which will speed up copies of large files but slow down copies of lots of small files.
