I pride myself in clear and straightforward communication, so when I am a bit vague, it’s for good reason. After several months of working behind the scenes and not posting much here on LinkedIn, I’m very happy to (finally!) publicly announce that on August 1st, I stepped in as Interim Executive Director of HumaneIntelligence, the nonprofit organization that Dr. Rumman Chowdhury started in 2022. Rumman is obviously a powerhouse in Responsible AI and AI ethics, but what has been far more important to me this past year is seeing that she is a great colleague, mentor, and friend. I’m honored she asked me to step into this role, and equally excited that she’ll continue as our Distinguished Advisor. For the past few months, we at Humane Intelligence have been heads down in our transition strategy, which is to sustainably scale our existing programs and services by: - Releasing our AI red teaming web application under an open source software license - Centering people with subject matter expertise and lived experience in every aspect of bias bounties, and moving bias bounties onto a data science challenge platform - Focusing on responsible AI for good model and system deployments We have a ton of new content on our NEW website, including a blog post I've written with more detail about our strategy shifts: https://lnkd.in/eaHBRfxt. The field of AI evaluations is complicated and evolving daily, and our team has worked hard to make sure we explain these concepts in understandable, accessible ways. I wouldn't be a good tech nonprofit leader if I didn't plug this: we have a lot of detail on our website about our 2025 fundraising priorities.
