The biggest editing mistake I see — and how to fix it Most videos don’t fail because the content is weak. They fail because the edit drags, confuses, or loses the viewer’s attention. The #1 mistake? Not thinking about the viewer’s experience while editing. Here’s what happens: ✔️ The video lingers too long on unimportant shots ✔️ Transitions are choppy or inconsistent ✔️ Important points aren’t emphasized ✔️ Captions or visuals don’t support the message It’s easy to get caught up in making something “look nice,” but engagement isn’t about aesthetics—it’s about clarity, pace, and connection. Content Autopsy: Where This Video Lost 70% of Viewers in 5 Seconds, It looked perfect. 🎥 High-quality camera. 📑 Polished script. 💡 Professional setup. And yet… within 5 seconds, 70% of viewers were gone. The cause of death? ❌ A slow, predictable intro. ❌ Zero hook to trigger curiosity. ❌ The actual value buried at minute 2. This is the mistake I see over and over: people think production = performance. But videos don’t die because of cameras or lighting. They die because they lose the brain in the opening seconds. Here’s how I would have saved it: ✅ Start with tension → A bold claim, a surprising stat, or a question the brain must answer. ✅ Cut the fluff → Deliver value in under 10 seconds. ✅ Add visual cues → Movement, pattern shifts, and overlays every 2–3 seconds to glue the eyes.
