I have personal news to report. Many of you have noticed a recent change in my LinkedIn profile. I have retired from an incredibly rewarding career with KeyBanc Capital Markets and will be looking forward to following a new path on life’s amazing journey. I started in investment banking in 1991 and have had the privilege of working with many talented colleagues, executives, investors, attorneys, and accountants, among others, along the way. I look back and can't believe all the changes - pulling data manually from printed SEC docs; WYSIWYG; voice mail to RIM pagers to StarTACs to iPhones; mainframes to LANs to app servers to the cloud and now AI; the Internet bubble, 2008 financial crisis and covid; and so much more. While I’m retiring from the corporate world, I'll continue to support software companies through board advisory and other assignments under Mazal Advisors LLC (named after my late mom, Vita Mazal O’Hare). I would like to thank my mentors, colleagues and clients who contributed to my career progression. I could not have made it to MD without your support. I especially thank Patrick Kratus and Randy Paine at KeyBanc for their unwavering support during this transition. I’m eternally grateful for KeyBanc’s commitment to career development and, more importantly, employee and family well-being. KeyBanc is an exceptional organization with an impressive team of collaborative professionals. I would be happy to make introductions to the KeyBanc team upon request. I must acknowledge a few former colleagues who collaborated with me tirelessly for many years and with whom I could not have had such a rewarding career. Roger Knight was instrumental in helping me build our IT Management Software ("IMS") franchise, and he helped train and manage a team that included Andrew Jardine. We worked on many transactions together and their contributions were instrumental to our success. They have since become talented MDs at other firms. Shortly thereafter, I was incredibly honored to work with Jonathan Lejuez, CFA. Jonathan is a quick study and worked hard to maintain our IMS franchise and branch off into Security. Jonathan was an incredible mentor to Zach Adamonis who proved he's in the same class as Roger, Andrew and Jonathan. I would not have succeeded without them - they are all better bankers than I was at their age. I look forward to catching up with as many people as possible over the coming months. Thank you for your support, guidance, trust, and friendship. Michael "Hey, I don't have all the answers. In life, to be honest, I failed as much as I've succeeded. But I love my wife. I love my life. And I wish you my kind of success.” - Dicky Fox
Best wishes on the next chapter, Michael!
