This month's President's Choice article in the Journal of Pediatric Health Care is titled "Improving Same-Day Access in Pediatric Primary Care — A Patient-Centered and Timeliness Quality Improvement Initiative". In choosing this article to be featured, NAPNAP President Felesia Bowen PhD, DNP, PPCNP-BC, FADLN, FAAN said the following: "This QI project was well thought out and it was done to address patient concerns, increase access to care and decrease ED utilization. This project used the PDSA cycle and beautifully demonstrated the iterative process of PDSA. The presentation of the data was clear and the use of the p-chart was appreciated. Furthermore the project was sustained and has the potential to be scaled. This is a paper that could be used as an exemplar in DNP programs." Research from Cedars-Sinai shows that focused training can help healthcare providers reduce bias and improve care for patients with obesity. Led by Amanda Velazquez, MD, the program increased empathy, confidence, and referrals to obesity care, with lasting results a year later. “Our goal was to move the needle toward greater comfort in referring their patients to appropriate obesity management,” said Velazquez.
