I think finding the right people to help and support you during start-up is key. You need to be both supported and challenged and prepared to adapt and work hard. Accepting and learning from feedback, if you are in the top seat you have to be prepared to listen to all ideas and then take on the ideas that resonate. Also the Pareto principle 20% effort for 80% return at the start; definitely at the start it should not be 80% effort for only 20% gain. Also capture feedback, discovery during start-up it sounds obvious but so many great projects fail to adapt.
