Building Victoria’s Circular Future I am proud to share that our Wollert Waste-to-Energy project has been granted a Waste-to-Energy Cap Licence by Recycling Victoria. This milestone is central to our vision of a Circular Precinct at Wollert—a next-generation hub that goes beyond traditional waste management to integrate recycling, recovery, and energy innovation. Designed with decarbonisation pathways embedded from the outset, the precinct will: - Enable industrial symbiosis, where materials and energy flow between industries to minimise waste and emissions - Deliver long-term community and environmental benefits, through responsible recovery of resources and diversion from landfill - Serve as a cornerstone for Australia’s circular economy transition Over the past few years, Cleanaway has been leading investment in Victoria to build the infrastructure needed to support this transformation, including: - Plastic bottle-to-bottle recycling facilities in Laverton, Altona and Albury with PACT, Coca-Cola, and Asahi - State-of-the-art Material Recycling Facilities (MRFs) that lift recovery rates and quality - Soft plastics recycling feasibility study in partnership with Viva Energy Now, with Wollert Waste-to-Energy, we can responsibly manage what sits at the bottom of the waste hierarchy—converting non-recyclable materials into energy while reducing landfill reliance. Together, these initiatives form a connected network that positions Cleanaway as both a waste sector leader and a decarbonisation enabler for Australia’s future. Thank you to our teams, partners, and communities for supporting this journey. Congratulations Preet for great initiatives & successful Leadership
Such exciting times ahead.
I think your celebration is a little premature. You do not have any approvals yet and must resubmit your whole application after Recycling Victoria doubled your feedstock - meaning your emissions are doubled - and the foreseeable adverse health and environmental impacts. Clean waste to energy incineration is a dirty lie. Its an industry driving the triple planetary crisis. Best to be honest about this because the Victorian Government is holding a parliamentary inquiry into waste to energy with a focus on incineration. Every community in Victoria has opposed this technology for very good reason, including Wollert. You have no social license to operate. Europe recommends to its member states to decommission old incinerators and not build new ones - a conclusion found in their Directive on the Role of Waste to Energy in the Circular Economy. They clearly argue that it undermines a CE and has no role being a linear technology that destroys finite resources. Its a strange, but not uncommon phenomena in Australia, to hold such different industrial regulation and policy views....here's a report to help those who may be confused about this - https://www.researchgate.net/publication/383692205_Waste_Incineration_and_the_Environment
Congratulations a huge win for Victoria!
Congratulations Preet Brar 👏
Love it! Well done Preet Brar!!
Such an important milestone for this project and another step in Cleanaway delivering on its Blueprint 2030 strategy. Arup is proud to be working with Cleanaway to support their ambition to the leader in sustainable waste management and support the decarbonisation of the sector.
Congratulations Preet and entire Cleanaway Waste Management team on reaching this important milestone.
