🔊 Gareth Chetwynd, from Recharge, spoke with Aaron Smith, Chief Commercial Officer at Principle Power, about what it means to have delivered 1 TWh energy from WindFloat® projects, the completion of offshore installation phase of the LES EOLIENNES FLOTTANTES DU GOLFE DU LION (EFGL) project, and how these milestones set the stage for the commercial scale floating wind projects featuring the next generation of 15+ MW turbines. In the interview, Aaron highlights that "as our industry advances towards bigger projects and larger wind turbines, then you need to have a very optimized coupled system, as Capex, Opex, and performance matter so much to making these commercial project business cases work." "To perform this system level optimization, you have to be sharp on your modelling - and it’s only possible to do this safely if the tools are backed by real-world data." He explains further that "our improved understanding of the loading environment and the structural requirements unlocks scope for real gains toward industrialization and optimization of fabrication, and that’s critically important." #Construction | A truly French summer of #OffshoreWind progress 🌊 At the beginning of this summer, we spoke with Marc Hirt, Country Manager France, to hear how construction was progressing across our French projects. 🎥 The video captures all of our summer progress: ✅ At our Yeu–Noirmoutier offshore wind farm, more than half of the turbines are already installed, and the site continues to produce more and more clean electricity. ✅ At our 30 MW EFGL project, all the floating turbines are now installed. ✅ At our Dieppe–Le Tréport project, the first turbine foundation has officially been installed. 👏 A big thank you to all the teams and partners who made this summer of progress possible. 👉 Watch the video to look back at where the season began — and how far we've come. #ProudtobeOW #EnergyTransition

We're excited to share that Ocean Winds has successfully completed the installation of the last turbine at France's 30 MW floating offshore wind pilot project. This significant milestone not only underscores the rapid growth of floating wind technology but also highlights France's commitment to expanding its renewable energy portfolio. Having seen similar initiatives grow in our own projects, we recognise the challenges and innovative solutions that come with establishing and scaling floating wind farms. As developers face complex environmental and logistical hurdles, this successful execution sets a promising precedent for future projects within Europe and beyond. It's interesting to note that floating wind technology could open up areas previously considered unsuitable for conventional turbines, potentially increasing our offshore capacity significantly. How do others in the industry view the potential of floating wind? Let's continue to share insights and experiences as we advance in this crucial sector. 🌊⚡ Can Floating Wind Be the Game-Changer in Renewable Energy? ⚡🌊 Most offshore wind turbines are fixed to the seabed. But what if we could take wind farms into the deep oceans, where winds are stronger and more consistent? That’s exactly what Floating Wind Technology promises. It can tap into 80% of untapped global wind resources by placing turbines in waters up to 1,000m deep. Imagine the possibilities: ✅ Higher, steadier energy output ✅ No land use conflicts ✅ Massive 15–20 MW turbines already in testing ✅ Huge potential for countries like India with deep coastal waters 🌍 Europe is leading the way with Hywind Scotland & Kincardine, while China has deployed a 17 MW floating turbine designed to withstand typhoons. Yes, challenges like costs and subsea cabling remain — but with scaling, solar and onshore wind also became affordable. 👉 Do you think floating wind will be the next big leap in renewable energy, or will costs keep it limited to niche markets? #FloatingWind #RenewableEnergy #CleanEnergy #BESS #HybridPower #EnergyTransition

The large wind turbines that could make up the 500MW Stoura floating offshore wind farm around 30 miles to the east of Shetland would be visible from shore on clear days. The team behind the project, driven forward by Irish energy company ESB, was in Shetland this week to speak to stakeholders, community representatives and also hosted an exhibition in the Voe hall on Thursday. Project manager Cian Desmond said the company was working towards submitting a consent application by 2028/29. In the time between now and that target date, the company hopes to be able to engage with the public to identify a suitable location in the wider Sullom Voe area for the wind farm’s cable landfall and the construction of a substation.
