For example, most people will operate in a way that maximizes the amount of money they will get and that minimizes the amount of work they have to do to get it. To see this, just leave someone unsupervised and allow them to bill you for what they have done. Be especially wary of this conflict of interest when people are advising you on matters that will affect how much money they earn--such as the lawyer who spends a lot of billable hours giving you advice, or the salesperson who advises you on what to purchase while receiving a commission on the amount that you spend. You can't imagine how many people I meet who are eager to "help" me. Don't be naive. Strive for the highest possible percentage of your population having meaningful work and meaningful relationships while recognizing that there will always be some percentage of the population who won't care for the community and/or will do it harm. #principleoftheday
People respond to the structure you create, if rewards are tied to self-interest, that’s what you’ll get. The challenge is designing systems that align personal gain with meaningful contribution. Ray Dalio
Ray Dalio, I so agree with you. Very often, and much more often than we imagine, people have an ulterior motive and a hidden agenda !! 😊 😊
🙏💡True, having diversified projects if you are in project management. When you get ghosted, you are in a strong position to kill some projects or simply let them fall by the wayside. I did it several times, and it worked well for me. I have more time and energy to focus on the growing part of my business. Remember, even if it’s your business, you are not obliged to keep alive forever. When time is up, let go of it; you never know if it will find a new path.
Ray Dalio This very principle of 'self interest' is what motivated the USA founders to create a 'check and balance' system under the USA constitution, the clarity that human beings tend to self actualize as a kind of internal call to fulfill their own legacy. Realizing that this instinct can sometimes come to nefarious ends, the system of 'checks and balance' was initiated to constrain the tyranny of the minority. Your clear warning to monitor and enforce is merited. Thank you for sharing, Ray Dalio
So true clarity comes when we recognize motivations clearly, both in others and in ourselves.
I don't believe for the most part that people need to pretend to operate in anyone else's interest since the counterpart would be naive to believe that as well. Social sciences teaches that self-interest is the assumption that individuals make decisions to maximize their own personal well-being or benefit, often in a rational and voluntary manner. This concept doesn't inherently mean selfishness but rather that individuals pursue what they believe is best for them, whether it's monetary gain, personal satisfaction, or other intrinsic benefits. The interaction of self-interested individuals, guided by the "invisible hand" of competition, then lead to the most efficient allocation of resources and mutual benefit for society, says Adam Smith. The key here is Voluntary Exchange: When both parties act in their self-interest, they engage in voluntary exchanges that benefit both parties, as each seeks to get something of value. That is central to successful negotiation.

As a Sales Professional I can only repeat, what a wise man once told me: Nothing in this world will ever get done without someone selling something to someone else. Be it the wife to her husband, doctors to their patients or teachers to their students. Even this post is selling an idea to us. Influence is unavoidable yet choose wisely who or what influence you alllow in your life and learn to identify and avoid the most selfish actors.
The root of most of the problems stems from a lack of understanding of what this country is established to do. It is founded NOT to promote community interest, nor to save the world (all these are mostly pretense), but to protect an individual's rights! With that in mind, a worker does not pretend to operate out in other's interest but always do it out of self-interest. Unlike a one who manages the work pretends to do invariably! In a low skill job where benchmark exists for normal work. But in a high a skill setting no benchmark and thus control does not exist. So, non-technical and not-so-technical resources should not be used, instead mutually trustworthy technical people (between management and worker) be used to assess performance. Cause the charges for the work performed is not just for the hours worked but is spread out to make up for the effort required to gain the skill to perform the work. The worker determines! If work is not satisfactory, worker can be replaced. But no snooping tools should be used in that process to control nor to transfer the work, under any pretense like community interest etc.!! Community work (a cover for corporate??!) should be voluntary, and not from forced labor!
