"Looking for a content strategist who can write, design, post, edit video, manage social, track analytics… and do it all with a smile (and a single paycheck)" Sound familiar? After 10 years working and now building content teams, here is what I know…the content marketing model is broken. Here is how I’d actually build a content team: ↳ Social Media Manager – publishing consistency & engagement machine ↳ The “Creative” – makes your brand scroll-stopping ↳ Project Manager – turns chaos into campaigns ↳ Marketing Automation Pro – connects content to conversions ↳ Content Lead – strategic, storytelling engine of the brand These are different disciplines. Each deserves focus, respect, and resources. According to Robert Half, 93% of leaders say it’s tough to find talent with the right creative and technical skills. Their latest report digs into which roles are most in demand and how teams are solving the talent gap with contract support. Impeccable timing!
love this breakdown!
The "unicorn marketer" expectation has become exhausting for everyone... Each of these roles requires distinct expertise and deserves proper focus. I've seen too many talented professionals burn out trying to be everything to everyone... What I find interesting is how many growing businesses get stuck in that messy middle - they've outgrown the one-person-does-everything phase but aren't quite ready for specialized roles yet. Having spent 20+ years in corporate operations, I see how that transition from scrappy startup mode to intentional team building is where a lot of businesses either thrive or stall out... Sometimes what they need most isn't another person wearing all the hats, but someone to help them figure out which hat to prioritize first - that's where good project management and strategy becomes invaluable!! Thanks for calling out what real, sustainable content marketing actually requires!
Having these tasks divided up into numerous roles but having all team members all working together is such a great and effective method
I love that I can just forward this to so many people. The issue is people want one person who does all of this. They want one person who knows all of this!
Would love to see a follow-up on how to effectively assemble such a team.
kudos for not rolling everything into one role
Such a solid breakdown. Expecting one person to juggle all those roles is a fast track to burnout and mediocre content. Specialized teams = better creativity and results.
Thanks for sharing, Brandon
