Build vs Buy in Salesforce: Custom Objects, AppExchange, or External Tool? Every Salesforce org hits the same question: Do we build it in-house, buy an app, or integrate an external tool? Here’s how to decide 👇 1) Build (Custom Objects & Config) ✅ Fully native, flexible ❌ Requires admin/dev resources Best when: Needs are unique & internal team can maintain it 2) Buy (AppExchange) ✅ Fast to implement, vendor-supported ❌ Ongoing licensing costs Best when: A vetted app covers 80%+ of your needs 3) Integrate (External Tool) ✅ Best-of-breed tools, scalable outside Salesforce ❌ Integration complexity, multiple UIs Best when: Function lives better outside Salesforce (e.g., ERP) Decision framework: - Is this core to Salesforce users? → Build/Buy - Do we have internal resources? → Build - Does an app meet most needs? → Buy - Should this live outside Salesforce? → Integrate The key: Evaluate upfront → save months of tech debt later. 👋 Need help deciding? 🚀 From Classic to Lightning: Lessons Learned in Salesforce UI Migration One of the most impactful projects we led was the migration from Salesforce Classic to Lightning Experience. The Challenge: Many sales teams have been deeply rooted in Classic for years. Beyond the technical migration, the biggest hurdle is often change adoption. Users are comfortable with the familiar layout, and moving to Lightning can feel disruptive to their daily workflow. What We Did: - Ran discovery sessions with end-users to identify pain points and must-have features. - Created a phased rollout plan starting with pilot groups. - Leveraged Lightning App Builder to customize pages, making them more intuitive and aligned with business processes. - Delivered training sessions and bite-sized “how-to” guides to ensure a smooth transition. Best Practices We Recommend: ✅ Engage end-users early and make them part of the journey. ✅ Don’t just “lift and shift” — optimize processes to take advantage of Lightning’s capabilities. ✅ Roll out in phases to reduce risk and build momentum with success stories. ✅ Provide ongoing training and support; adoption is as much about culture as it is about technology. The result? Higher adoption, improved productivity, and better visibility across Sales and Marketing. 💡 If your organization is planning a Classic-to-Lightning migration, focus on people just as much as the platform. 👉 At Pyramid SG Consulting, we provide end-to-end consultation services to ensure a smooth and successful migration. We often talk about how Aptumo is 'native to Salesforce' - but what does that actually mean in real terms? We posed this question to Head of Engineering, Surendra, who explained in more detail: ➡️ Built 100% on the Salesforce platform The application is developed directly using Salesforce’s own technologies, not on external servers or middleware. ➡️ Runs inside Salesforce org The product doesn’t need separate infrastructure. It’s installed in your Salesforce org via AppExchange as a managed package, and all data stays within Salesforce. ➡️ Uses the Salesforce data model and security All records are standard Salesforce objects or custom objects built on the platform, leveraging Salesforce’s security, sharing rules, profiles and permission sets. ➡️ Seamless user experience The user interface looks and feels like Salesforce, so users don’t need to log into another system. ➡️ Automatic upgrades and scalability Since it’s on the Salesforce platform, upgrades align with Salesforce releases, and it scales with the org. In short, 'native' means the product lives inside Salesforce, using its database, security, and UI - unlike 'integrated' apps that sit outside and connect via APIs. Why not book a demo and see Aptumo, native to Salesforce, in action 👇 https://lnkd.in/gzjkuvcC #Native #NotIntegrated #WaterBilling #BillingSoftware #SalesforcePlatform #TrustAptumo #SaaS
