US Grid Interconnection Agreements Hit Record 75 GW in 2024 Amid Federal Reforms The United States recorded its highest-ever volume of grid interconnection agreements in 2024, with capacity surging 33% year-on-year to 75 gigawatts (GW), according to a new report by Wood Mackenzie. The milestone follows the introduction of Federal Energy Regulatory Commission (FERC) Order No. 2023 and other regional reforms designed to accelerate the processing of interconnection requests. The report, Tracking the Progress of US Grid Interconnection, highlights that the reforms have begun to ease longstanding bottlenecks by reducing speculative projects and clearing queue backlogs. “We saw a record year in 2024, with 75 GW of secured capacity. 2025 is maintaining this […] Read the full story here: https://lnkd.in/dzx34YWQ #solarenergy #alternativeenergy #solarpv #pvsolar #photovoltaic #cleanenergy #cleantech #climatechange #america #ferc #grid #report #woodmackenzie

The U.S. House has passed the GRID Power Act, which would allow dispatchable power projects shown to support grid reliability to jump ahead in interconnection queues. ⚡️ Under the bill, FERC would have 60 days to review proposals from RTOs/ISOs for which projects get this priority, & then complete rulemaking within 180 days once the law is enacted. Proponents argue this will help clear the backlog of “shovel-ready” plants waiting for years, as demand continues to rise 📈. Detractors, including clean energy advocates, warn that prioritizing dispatchable (often fossil-based) generation may slow down deployment of faster, non-dispatchable sources like wind and solar. 🌱 #GridReliability #EnergyPolicy #DispatchableGeneration #CleanEnergy #Regulation #Infrastructure #PowerMarket

The U.S. House of Representatives passed a bill Thursday that could give dispatchable power plants priority in interconnection queues. Under the GRID Power Act, FERC would have 60 days to review proposals from regional transmission organizations and independent system operators for specific projects that would be pushed to the head of interconnection queues. Sens. John Hoeven, R-N.D., and Todd Young, R-Ind., have introduced a companion bill in the Senate. The Electric Power Supply Association, a trade group for power producers, supports the bill. But the Sierra Club said the bill — along with two other energy bills that passed the House Thursday — would hamper efforts to build cleaner, more reliable energy sources, like wind and solar, that can be built more quickly than fossil-fueled power plants.

Energy Department Intervenes to Ensure Grid Stability in Mid-Atlantic Amid Reliability Concerns U.S. Secretary of Energy Chris Wright has issued an emergency order directing PJM Interconnection (PJM), in coordination with Constellation Energy, to keep Units 3 and 4 of the Eddystone Generating Station in Pennsylvania available for operation through November 26, 2025. The order is intended to minimize the risk of energy shortfalls in the Mid-Atlantic region, where rising demand and the accelerated retirement of existing power plants are straining grid reliability. “With unprecedented energy demand and resource retirements outpacing new generation additions, the country is facing an energy emergency,” Secretary Wright said. “Today’s order proves that the Trump Administration is dedicated […] Read the full story here: https://lnkd.in/gQQm6xzX #solarenergy #alternativeenergy #solarpv #pvsolar #photovoltaic #cleanenergy #cleantech #climatechange #doe #energycost #gridstability #powerplants #usa

The U.S. power grid is at a tipping point. 📈 Major hyperscalers are requesting sites requiring 1-5 GW of capacity. ⚡ Grid reliability is under strain, with annual outage hours projected to exceed 800 hours per year by 2030. ⏳ Interconnection queues are clogged, with average wait times hitting five years. 🏛️ New federal policy, the One Big Beautiful Bill Act (OBBBA), compresses timelines and introduces stricter elgibility rules for renewable developers. In our latest blog, we cover what you need to know about these four drivers currently reshaping the U.S. power grid. Australia’s grid‑scale batteries are entering a step‑change, with 8,599 MW already under construction versus 4,292 MW operating, and 24,510 MWh in build compared with 8,710 MWh online. That pipeline equals approximately 2.62 times the operating fleet by MW and 3.57 times by MWh, clear evidence of a rapid increase in both capacity and storage hours. The average duration is trending upward from 2.03 hours to 2.49 hours to 2.85 hours across operating, commissioning, and construction, signaling longer and more reliable dispatch windows.
