NVIDIA CEO Jensen Huang on why he discourages 1:1s: "Almost everything that I say, I say to everybody all at the same time. I don't really believe there's any information that I operate on that somehow only one or two people should hear about."
A fraudulent company created the account and the first payment was closed. My account is closed and they do not want to refund the buyer’s money.🚨🚨🚨🚨🚨
Thoughtful post, thanks
1:1 meetings aren't just about having secrets between people. Its a forum that can illicit different types of conversations and some people communicate and work thru problems in a better way when speaking with 1 other person rather than 10.
Makes you ponder how many things we do in business, just because that's what everybody else does...
This really drives motivation and unity, thanks for sharing!
Maybe 1-1 ‘s are not primarily a vehicle for a leader to broadcast instructions but for a leader to listen and get feedback from those in their team.
If you are discussing company and project updates in 1:1s you are not leading, you are dictating and in that context I completely agree with Jensen. Your 1:1s should be to foster individual career growth, with the goal to strength and build trust within your reports.
Jensen's approach is refreshing and speaks to the value of transparency. It really encourages a sense of community and shared understanding.
Very interesting dynamic and perspective. I would assume that at EVP level, 1:1s may be more about tactical and strategic discussions before hitting the board/round table of leaders, but as you go further down the chain, those tend to drive favoritism, nepotism, distrust, and lack of cohesiceness amongst team members. Transparency works wonders. Just like the mindset of the 1940s-60s, is 9 to 5 a norm still just because that was the de facto standard? Some of the most remarkable, trend setting, agility sound and resilient organizations are the ones that are not afraid to lead by way of change and create new ways of doing things. Jensen (sorry no relation ☹️) raises the perspective his organization practices from the top down, a key dynamic for sure.

2wTotally agree with this mindset. When everyone has access to the same information, we reduce guesswork and enable people to make smarter, more aligned decisions. Transparency leads to better outcomes, not just for execution, but also for motivation and trust.
