Currently worried about the safety of open line staffs and their work life balance in Indian Railways

Raising Railway Safety for Track Signal MaintainersIt is with deep sorrow that I share news of yet another preventable tragedy on our railway network. On August 2025, Sri Aritra Bar, a dedicated signal maintainer in Kamarkundu, Howrah Division, was run over and killed by a train while performing critical maintenance tasks on the tracks. This incident is part of a worrying pattern: runover cases among track and signal maintenance staff are reported to be increasing. Recent data underscores this trend across divisions, prompting the Railway Board to review protocols after multiple similar cases in the past year alone .Railways must urgently invest in safer work procedures, robust staff training, better real-time warning systems, and stronger enforcement of safety standards. Every life lost in the line of duty is a reminder of our collective responsibility to protect those who keep our railways running.Let us honor Sri Aritra Bar’s memory by advocating for real change—safer railway working conditions that leave no room for complacency.#RailSafety #SignalStaff #TrackMaintenance #SafetyFirst #EasternRailway #HowrahDivision
