💥A remarkable leap toward the quantum internet   Modern development of quantum communications requires the development of methods of quantum physics that can offer communication security, properly improving the protection of safe data transmission as compared to methods of classical encryption. 🌐 After setting a world record in quantum key distribution (#QKD), transmitting quantum-secure keys over 1,707 km along the standard optical fiber with a 10,000× improvement in performance, we are proud to share the next milestone in our journey to the future: our paper, “Loss control-based QKD with noisy devices,” has been published in Nature Portfolio’s Scientific Reports. This work represents a crucial leap from controlled classical experiments to real-world quantum communication. In practical deployments, devices are never perfect. They generate noise, drift, and errors. Yet, our research demonstrates that QKD remains secure and efficient even in these noisy, real-life environments. As reported in Nature Portfolio: “Our findings demonstrate a positive impact of the trusted preparation noise on the QKD based on loss control for reverse and direct reconciliation scenarios.” 🛜 In other words: even the natural imperfections of real hardware can strengthen the security of quantum communication when harnessed correctly.
