Lessons from the Field
Once, I was called to a project at a newly built Tax and Customs Department building. On paper, everything looked fine: the Modbus line had been installed with the right type of shielded cable. But when I started investigating, the reality was very different.
The conductors had been cut and pushed straight into the terminal blocks—without being twisted together—adding unnecessary resistance. The shielding braid wasn’t connected to ground at all; it was simply left hanging. Because of this, every time the doors closed or even the slightest vibration occurred, the system would short out. The result was an intermittent, “flaky” problem that drove everyone crazy.
It didn’t take long to track down and fix the mistakes (binary logic in diagnostics helped), but the real takeaway was clear: what works today might fail tomorrow if cabling isn’t done properly. And even if you repair one mistake today, another hidden one may remain.
In building automation, proper cabling and grounding aren’t just details—they are the foundation of reliable communication.
That’s why we must rethink our reliance on copper wiring. With solutions like Milesight IoT, we can stay secure and finally move beyond the headaches of bad cabling.
It's exciting to see how Runwise is revolutionizing building efficiency with your Sub-1 GHz technology! Real-time alerts and enhanced energy management are key to driving smarter, more sustainable buildings, and it's clear that your technology is leading the way. At SinoGaN, we share the same commitment to innovation and efficiency. We offer a wide range of GaN (Gallium Nitride) epitaxial wafers and AlN (Aluminum Nitride) templates in various sizes and types, including 8-inch GaN on silicon wafers for power applications and 6-inch GaN on silicon wafers for RF applications. These materials are designed to meet the demands of high-performance electronics, and we would love to explore how SinoGaN can support your continued innovations. Looking forward to seeing how your technologies shape the future of smart systems!
