Kulture Kick: Celebrate the passions and cultures that makes us unique and the game that brings us together!
Food, Music, Art - from around the world. FREE EVENT
Experience the culture of a community. There's the food, the dancing, the music, the sport, the art, so much more, right? There's an upcoming free event called the Culture Kick and it has it all. Monk Matthias, he joins us this morning to share more along with Michael Douglas from the Soccer Rebellion. Good morning, gentlemen. How are you? Morning, morning. Doing fantastic yourself. I'm doing well. This is a brand new thing. I'm excited to talk about it. Culture Kick. Well, that's to start with what? What is that? So Culture Kick came into existence because the Refugee World Cup was cancelled. This year, OK, so a friend of mine named Tyler reached out and said, hey, can you help us put together a a soccer tournament for the refugee youth? So instead of soccer, we moved it to the football, which is street soccer essentially, so that we were able to do it. We're able to make this happen during Art Prize. And because of people like Michael and Corey down at DRI, we're able to do that. But this is much more than just football. This is a full on day celebration of international culture and general diversity within West Michigan. So there's yeah, sports, there's food, there's. Live visual artists, aerosol artist painting live, there's multiple DJ, there's bands, there's dance groups, vendors, be it food vendors as well as product and service vendors. So it's a full on celebration of international and West Michigan diversity. I love everything you just said as a tapestry of action right there of everything that that makes up West Michigan in football. For those who were like hearing this and saying I think they're mispronouncing football, no, we're not. It's it's football, football. Explain to folks with that football is a little bit more fast-paced. It's it's 5V5, so you get a lot of the high action in a small sample size. So it's a lot more digestible for someone that maybe doesn't know soccer. It's used with a small ball. It's on a smaller field and it's 585 Subs on the fly. You have one goalie and it's very fast-paced. OK, you said Subs on the fly. Subs on the fly meaning. Sorry, I invited my jargon. I love that because they stopped the soccer game, they put their hand up in things. Not in this game. No, there's running off running exactly because the action is really fast, very continuous. Excellent books alternative. So for those who haven't seen that, where is all that going to be held? This is gonna be at Lost Conscious downtown, all 250 Seward. So it used to be the old Dash parking lot. So we turned into 3 football courts. Excellent. So you turned that whole parking lot into some football chords. That's where all the action is gonna be happening, I'm assuming. Or surrounding that, all the other action as well. Absolutely. So surrounding the court, you're going to have a whole area dedicated to vendors, a whole area dedicated to food. You're going to have the music tent with, you know, again, the dancers, the DJ, the bands. And we're going to have an area just blocked off specifically for aerosol artists. There's four of them coming. They're going to be just right in front of your eyes. In some amazing pieces right there yeah, those errors are so they're so fun to watch yeah You know I find myself watching them on my phone too I mean there's always fun to watch him work and the DJ's there and the foods there and I I love this great event. It sounds like I really want to attend. I don't know if I can afford it. Ohh wait wait, you can it's free. It's free. It's so you're not charged so you've got to have somebody behind this somebody to thank or or maybe to ask can you help support this? Thank you for for that. Yeah, so first of all, I want to thank our prize. Our prize, huge supporter. They heard about this, we pitched it and they said, Oh my gosh, yeah, we want to be a part of this. We wanna help you make this happen. So thanking our prize, we're thanking the soccer rebellion. Monk Recordings is also helping out. Friends of Grand Rapids Parks came through in the clutch. Huge thank you to them. And then Dr. I, you know, they they run last conscious and they just were like, yeah, absolutely use use these courts. And to your point, though, we are still looking for a few more sponsors at a 300 or $500 level. Not a huge ask. And that money will go directly to make sure that we're paying every single musician and visual artist there appropriately, you know, and thank them for their their talent. Yeah, they, they should as they should be compensated for them being there is where you can take advantage of this amazing free event. And look, culture kick, I see this happening annually. I see that. I mean, even if they hold the refugee game culture kick every year looks like a great time of celebration of West Michigan's cultural diversity. You want to be there? It's absolutely free. All ages from the data loss conscious. You can get more information at fox17morningmix.com. We'll be right back.
