It's been a incredible few weeks for #loadflexibility enthusiasts, from multiple sessions on #DERs and #VPPs at SF Climate Week to three days of delightful load flex geekery at the PLMA (@PLMAflm) spring meeting. One thing is more clear to me than ever - we are at an inflection point for #loadflexibility (whether you call it #loadmanagement, #demandresponse, #virtualpowerplants, or some other name.) Macro trends and technological advancement are combining to create an immense opportunity to meet our energy needs in a distributed and flexible way. 📈 Load is growing at its fastest rate in decades. ⏳ Multi-year lead times for generation (gas turbines) and grid (transformers and switchgear) equipment are persisting. 💲 The cost to deliver electricity continues to rise (and is higher than the cost of generation in some places.) ⛈️ Extreme weather, natural disasters, and human-made catastrophes make our energy infrastructure vulnerable. 🔋 Batteries, ☀️ solar, 🚗 EVs, smart thermostats and HVAC, and other controllable loads are cheaper and more prevalent than ever. 💪 Load flexibility is the fastest, most cost-effective way to meet rising peak demand and build a resilient energy system. 🚀 It's not just large IOUs - smaller utilities, munis, co-ops, and CCAs are all embracing load flexibility ➡️ The biggest challenges at this point are not technological. The most difficult issues are related to public policy, business processes, and economics (primarily value recognition.) 🎉 There is lots of work to do, and it's an exciting time to be in this space!
Amazing swag!!!
Love the hat. I ❤️ VPPs, too. Any idea where I could get one?
That hat 😍
Nice hat!
I’d love it too, if Tesla actually paid out.
