Someone asked why the sky still appears blue when using the IR-SENSE on a smartphone camera. The film is designed and optimized to differentiate between different types of "white light" and to identify lighting products that produce full spectrum with near-infrared (NIR) energy. When pointing the camera at objects having non-white light/colors, it will generally highlight the most dominant spectral feature present. Blue in the case of sky/water and NIR in the case of tree leaves. The IR-SENSE is intended to be a simpler, quicker, and lower-cost alternative to using a digital infrared detector or spectrometer to determine whether a white light source is producing NIR.
