Happy Labor Day! This past few days, I visited The University of Osaka, my alma mater, to attend the inauguration event of the Satoshi Kawata Photonics Foundation. Professor Satoshi Kawata is a distinguished scientist who has made numerous contributions to the field of applied physics. He served as the 2022 President of Optica and has been one of the strongest supporters of our Optica-AGU collaboration, #GEMM. ✅ Prof (emeritus) Satoshi Kawata https://lnkd.in/eKxjb9xk It’s always amusing to look back and realize that I didn’t even know such a prominent scientist was on the same campus—just five minutes from my office—when I was doing my Ph.D. at the university. I used to walk past his building on my way to the cafeteria, completely unaware. I was so narrowly focused on my CO2 work. It was a special honor to deliver an invited lecture during the event. I also had inspiring discussions with leading applied physicists at the photonics center, as well as with young researchers and students. I was truly impressed by their enthusiasm to further explore the possibilities of photonics and to continue leading the world in this field by providing #innovation and #solution to global challenges. I look forward to contributing to the foundation’s activities and supporting the growth of the foundation, the photonics center, and the university that shaped me to who I am today. By the way, I got an autograph from Prof Kawata!
