The Schneider G2040MT surge protective device (SPD) in the image likely burnt out due to an overvoltage event, such as a lightning strike or a power surge, exceeding its protective capacity. SPDs, like the Schneider G2040MT shown, are designed to protect electrical equipment from transient overvoltages by diverting excess current to the ground. When an overvoltage event occurs that is significantly higher than the SPD's rated capacity , the internal components, such as varistors, can be overwhelmed.
