Microsoft to force install the Microsoft 365 Copilot app in October Next month, Microsoft will begin automatically installing the Microsoft 365 Copilot app on Windows devices outside of the EEA region that have the Microsoft 365 desktop client apps. The Microsoft 365 Copilot app integrates the AI-powered Copilot assistant with Microsoft 365 suite apps, including Word, Excel, and PowerPoint, as well as other features like Notebooks and AI agents. Redmond also advised admins to notify their organizations' helpdesk teams and users before the app is forcibly installed on their devices "to reduce confusion and support requests." The rollout will start in early October and be completed by mid-November; however, the Microsoft 365 Copilot app will not be installed on systems within the European Economic Area (EEA). In October, Microsoft will automatically install the Microsoft 365 Copilot app on Windows devices that have Microsoft 365 desktop client applications. This installation will not affect devices within the European Economic Area (EEA). The rollout is scheduled to begin in early October and is expected to be completed by mid-November. The app will be added to the Windows Start Menu and enabled by default. IT administrators who manage Microsoft 365 app deployments can opt out of this automatic installation. To do so, they will need to access the Microsoft 365 Apps admin center and disable the automatic installation setting for the Microsoft 365 Copilot app. This initiative is part of a broader effort by Microsoft to increase the accessibility of Copilot. This also includes the integration of Microsoft 365 Copilot agents into the Edge sidebar, which is planned to start in late September 2025. https://lnkd.in/ghbRYcKX

Microsoft is rolling out lightweight taskbar companion apps for business users of Microsoft 365 on Windows 11. These apps launch automatically at startup and give instant access to: • People: Browse your org chart, look up colleagues, and quickly start Teams chats, calls, or emails. • File Search: Find files by name, author, or keyword across OneDrive, SharePoint, Teams, and Outlook—plus preview, filter, and share. • Calendar: View upcoming events, search appointments, or join meetings right from the taskbar. Originally announced at Ignite and tested in beta, the apps are now in general availability. They’ll auto-install if Microsoft 365 apps are on your PC, but IT admins can block them, and users can stop them from launching at startup.
