For any Rankine cycle (steam) power plant, a critical question is the temperature of the heat source. The Second Law of thermodynamics and the Carnot equation show that efficiency increases with the temperature difference between the hot and cold heat reservoirs. The article makes no mention of how hot the deep geothermal source in Utah will be.

How about the billion tonnes of crop waste that is burned each year. All that energy is laying on the ground. That and the organic waste that is sent to landfills contain enough energy to supply 5% of the world’s electricity And this energy is distributed world wide. It costs very little to convert this biomass to electricity and biochar. Just a few hundred usd can enable a community to build a steam generator and convert the biomass to biochar. Biomass to biochar is the least expensive electricity available So please everyone consider the easy low cost solution to create low cost renewable electricity and cut ghg emissions by 10% and capture and sequester hundreds of millions of tonnes of co2 AND reduce poverty Yes it is that easy Yes no new investment is needed
Bill Gates not only has geothermal kept our lights in #Iceland for several decades it has also transformed our entire society and triggered a wealth of economic development and new jobs. Over 65% of our primary energy stems from geothermal and a large part of that stems from the direct use of geothermal like at the Orka náttúrunnar / ON Power plant in Hellisheiði you saw close to Þríhnúkagígar volcano, which not only harnesses the heat from the ground for electrity production but also for heat. If geothermal can meet up to 20% of the world's electricty demand - imagine what it could do in terms of heating and cooling?
