Equinor pulls out of 2 GW Australian floating wind farm; project rejects feasibility licence #AUS: The developers behind the Novocastrian floating wind farm have decided not to accept the feasibility licence offered by the Australian government for their up to 2 GW project in the Hunter offshore wind zone. The floating offshore wind farm was being developed by Norway’s energy company Equinor and Oceanex. The plans for the project were announced by Oceanex in 2020, with the federal government granting the feasibility licence in February 2025. The wind farm included the use of floating foundations . . . #windpower #windenergy

Australia Accelerates Offshore Wind Ambitions with New Licenses in Indian Ocean Zone Australia is ramping up its commitment to offshore wind power with the recent announcement of two new preliminary feasibility licenses, marking another significant stride toward establishing wind farms in the Indian Ocean. These licenses were awarded to consortiums backed by European energy leaders, including France’s EFP Group for the Bunbury Offshore Wind South project and the Ocean Winds (EDP Renewables & ENGIE partnership) for the Westward Wind project. This milestone follows last week’s decision by Equinor, the Norwegian energy developer, to decline its feasibility license for a proposed floating wind farm off New South Wales—representing a notable setback for the industry. Meanwhile, Minister for Climate Change and Energy Chris Bowen emphasized the importance of these new licenses in advancing Australia’s renewable energy ambitions. He noted that Western Australia alone will require approximately 50 gigawatts of additional generation capacity by 2042 . The zoning area south of Perth was officially declared in September 2024 and has an estimated capacity to support an impressive 11.4 gigawatts of clean energy, a clear indicator that Australia is positioning itself to tap into its considerable offshore wind potential For more updates in latest Sea and Shore Vacancies as well as with Marine News please visit our page#NimbusMarinehttps://lnkd.in/g8DJSpYR #Maritime #seafarers #Shipping #NimbusMarineGroup CREDITS: https://lnkd.in/gnBZ9zAt

World’s first nature-inclusive 30 MW floating wind farm launched in France ◾Awind energy company has completed offshore turbine installation of the first floating wind project. Ocean Winds’ new project in Occitanie, France, is a significant milestone for the global floating wind industry, demonstrating technology readiness, regional collaboration, and environmental integration. ◾With three 10 MW turbines installed on floating foundations, Éoliennes Flottantes du Golfe du Lion (EFGL) demonstrates the viability of floating offshore wind in deeper waters, unlocking high-wind areas previously out of reach. ◾Assembled at Port-La Nouvelle and towed 16 km offshore, the turbines now stand ready for the final stage of cable and grid connection works done by RTE, before starting to deliver clean energy to approximately 50,000 inhabitants each year. ◾The company revealed that the milestone cements OW’s global leadership in floating offshore wind, coming on the heels of five years of operation of its 25 MW WindFloat Atlantic project in Portugal. ◾The successful installation of EFGL now paves the way for larger developments, including the Eoliennes Flottantes d’Occitanie (EFLO), a 250 MW floating offshore wind project awarded to OW and Banque des Territoires in late 2024. ◾In addition, EFGL is also the world’s first nature-inclusive floating wind farm, with artificial marine habitats (Biohuts) installed at sea to enhance biodiversity. ◾This innovation, combined with advanced engineering and regional cooperation, sets a new standard for responsible offshore wind development worldwide, according to a press release. ◾The success of EFGL demonstrates floating wind’s readiness to scale, both in France and internationally, contributing to the global acceleration of offshore wind energy.
