2024 | LONG LONG Overdue!

Stop the press the LONG LONG overdue Green Lease Guideline has finally been published by the Better Buildings Partnership - Bravo!  That is big news and I am delighted for all commercial property users across the UK.  In other much less exciting news but also very interesting, the focus on AI and real estate is coming into focus, does anyone out there want to fund me doing some exciting proof of concept projects on this topic? 


Papers and trends: Global occupier trends to watch in 2024

Why read: JLL UK this that forward thinking firms will seize the opportunity to rethink their property portfolios and adapt to new workforce demands, ESG priorities and technology innovation. THIS SENTENCE COULD BE WRITTEN ABOUT ME!

I’ve changed the title on this, as I could be waiting a long time to see a great concept in real estate. 


Sustainability: Green Lease Toolkit to Kickstart 2024

Why read: LONG LONG Overdue! The last guideline was produced in 2012.  This is a really epic release by the Better Buildings Partnership (BBP), it contains legal clauses in nearly 20 key areas.  The Green Lease Toolkit caters to a diverse audience, including property owners, occupiers, letting agents, lawyers, managing agents, investors and analysts. Bravo


Data Centres: Google has invested $1bn (£790m) to build its first UK data centre.

Why read: The project marked the latest investment by a major US tech firm in Britain, after Microsoft announced it would invest £2.5bn to expand data centres for artificial intelligence (AI) across the UK. 


AI: Generative AI can change real estate, but the industry must change to reap the benefits

Why read: I maintain wholeheartedly that the real estate industry has only ever adopted two forms of technology, the mobile phone and email.  So how will they change this drastically and do they actually have too, they’ve managed without anything else thus far..


Flex: 7 out of 10 employees are unaware of new day one right to request flexible working

Why read: The day one right to request flexible working will come into force on 6 April 2024. Additional law reforms on flexible working that are outlined in the Employment Relations (Flexible Working) Act 2023 are expected to come in at the same time.  Does anyone actually know that this is happening? 


Podcasts/books: The impact of conflict histories in the Israel-Hamas and Russia-Ukraine wars

Why listen or read: Get educated on the Israel-Gaza relationship, by the one and only Simon Sebag Montefiore. There is no greater source of truth or voice of reason and authority  in the region - from wherever on the spectrum of support you sit. 


Fact of the week: The national animal of Scotland is the Unicorn.
