The 4 Phases of Finding your Passion.!

The 4 Phases of Finding your Passion.!

From the very beginning of MyCaptain, I have been of the opinion that finding your passion is the first step towards building a better future. What that future is going to look like is a question we don’t need to get into right now.

What we do need to talk about is how to figure out what your passion is.

Now, I don’t see finding one’s passion as a brainwave or a belief. I feel it’s a journey and a rather fun one at that.

Let’s find out, shall we?

I believe there are 4 phases to finding your passion,

  • The “How do I do this?” phase
  • The “There are so many things I want to do” phase.
  • The “I know what I don’t want to do” phase. And finally,
  • The “BINGO” moment!

The first step is to find out which phase are you in right now.

One of the best ways to do this is to ask questions to yourself.

Start by questioning why you’re doing what you’re doing? What is it that excites you about this? What are people in this field doing that you’re not? And more.

But how can you keep doing this? Well, let’s start from the top,

The “How do I do this?” Phase

Now you might be aware of the very famous “Golden Circle” concept by Simon Sinek.

I believe it is a great starting point towards finding our passion.

And in this very spirit, let’s start with why?

Keep asking yourself “Why?”

Why am I doing this?

Why is what I’m doing the best thing for me?

Why are people following this path?

Why have I not done this before?

And so on…

After a point, you’ll start seeing some answers have started to make sense. You have started to connect the dots and maybe you feel that your bingo moment isn’t all that far away.

This brings us to the “There are so many things I want to do” Phase

Once you have started getting the answers to some of the questions you ask yourself, you will start seeing multiple opportunities.

So many things will open up that it might seem hard to figure out which path to choose.

I would recommend taking up one thing at a time and following through on it.

Make a choice, it could be a bold one but it has to be yours. Pick it up and take that option to a point where either you see more possibilities branching out or you hit a dead end.

At this point, you’ll know whether you can move ahead or whether it’s time to come back to the drawing board.

Which one is better, you ask?

BOTH

Both options are amazing. Either you know what you want or you know what you don’t.

It’s more likely that you’ll have to come back to the drawing board a few times and that’s absolutely okay.

Now you know what you don’t want to do. It narrows your focus and gives you more headspace to work on figuring out what you really want.

The key thing to note here is to not lose hope and keep trying till you figure it out. Take a break if you want, keep your mental health paramount but make sure you come back to the drawing board once you can.

Make a list, hang it on your wall and keep striking things off.

Keep eliminating what doesn’t work. Maybe you didn’t like what you tried, maybe it wasn’t a good enough opportunity or maybe the universe didn’t want for it to happen.

All that it means is that you’re getting closer.

Keep experimenting!

Keep eliminating! And soon enough,

The BINGO Moment arrives!

An exceptional moment of clarity, the world suddenly looks brighter!

You know what you want now, it was right there all along. It took some time but you’re finally here..

It will seem like the perfect opportunity, the right key to the lock, you are now at the cusp of building something amazing.

You have now figured out the problem you want to solve. Now it’s on to the next step, the solution.

It took us at MyCaptain a long time to figure out the solution to the problem we were trying to solve. There were many pivots. I have talked about these in one of my earlier articles (see the first comment for the link).

Finding your passion is a beautiful journey, one I feel should be taken with an open mind and dedication.

Hope this helped you in some way! Let me know your thoughts in the comments below.
