šŸš€ 7X Your Interview Requests: A Playbook for Your Career Transition and Job Search

šŸ“Œ TL;DR: If your job search isn’t gaining traction, it’s not always about your qualifications. It might be your strategy. Here’s how to apply a proven change management model (ADKAR) to reposition your career narrative, realign your job search, and multiply your results.

Let’s take a moment to reflect on this particular harsh reality: nothing feels worse than doing everything right and getting nothing back. 😤

You’ve got the experience. You’ve followed all the advice. And yet... silence. That’s your cue that something’s off—not with your talent, but with your strategy. This isn’t a sign to give up. It’s a sign to shift. And if you’re ready to make that shift, this playbook is for you. šŸ™‚

āš ļø Sidebar: There is absolutely no guarantee that following this approach will result in 7X interview requests for everyone who attempts it. But that’s what it did for me. All I’m saying is that if you’re feeling stuck, why not give this a shot? Hey, you never know until you try. šŸ¤·šŸ½

šŸ…° AWARENESS: Something’s Not Working

You don’t need another rejection email to confirm it. If you’re not landing interviews—or you’re landing the wrong ones—it’s time to step back and reassess.

āœ… Checklist: Awareness

  • Reflect on your recent results (number of interviews, recruiter responses, role alignment) šŸ’
  • Compare your resume and LinkedIn profile—are they aligned? šŸ¤”
  • Ask yourself: Is my positioning clear and compelling—or am I trying to be too many things at once? 🤹

Step 1: Review Your Current Materials

Start with your resume, LinkedIn, and messaging.Ā

  • What do they say about you? 🧐
  • Are you showing the version of yourself that aligns with roles you’re applying for? šŸ˜‰

Step 2: Identify Gaps in Alignment

If your headline says one thing but your bullets reflect another, that confusion could be costing you traction.

  • Are you sending mixed signals? 🚦
  • Are you sure that the job you’re looking for even exists today? šŸ›£ļø

Awareness isn’t about self-deprecation—it’s about getting honest so you can pivot with power.

šŸ…³ DESIRE: Be Willing to Do Things Differently

Here’s where most people get stuck: they know what they’re doing isn’t working, but they’re not ready to let it go.

If you’re clinging to the same resume format from 2019 or applying for roles you don’t even want, this is your sign. You might also be trying to apply for jobs that existed before the COVID era but are no longer relevant today. It’s time to reset.

āœ… Checklist: Desire

Let go of outdated strategies that no longer reflect the market. What used to work 3–5 years ago can be irrelevant today.

  • Revisit the roles you’re targeting—do they still match your strengths and interests? šŸ’Ŗ
  • Where have you consistently delivered results, even if not aligned to your title at the time? šŸ“ˆ
  • What did you do in the past that you actually enjoyed doing? 🤸

Step 1: Accept That Change Is Required

It’s tempting to blame the market or keep reusing what’s familiar. But real momentum starts when you shift your approach.

Step 2: Recommit to Your Future, Not Your Past

Stop applying for roles that are a version of who you used to be. Start targeting areas that align with where you want to grow.

Focus on where you thrive, not where you’ve simply survived.

šŸ…ŗ KNOWLEDGE: Understand What Roles Are Relevant Now

Today’s hiring landscape has changed—and so have the roles companies need. Some job titles have evolved. Others didn’t even exist a few years ago.

Before you spend hours reworking your resume or chasing every vaguely relevant job, pause and ask: What roles are actually relevant right now—and how does my background align?

āœ… Checklist: Knowledge

  • Upload up to 10 resumes into ChatGPT and run the prompt to identify roles that align with your skills. ā¬†ļø
  • Look for patterns in job families and recurring titles. 🧩
  • Use the LinkedIn Workforce Report to confirm where demand is growing. šŸ“ƒ
  • Study the language, requirements, and skills listed in top-performing job posts. šŸ‘€
  • Align your profile and applications to reflect your experience and where the market is headed. šŸ›£ļø

Step 1: Use ChatGPT to Evaluate Your Fit

Upload your top resumes into ChatGPT (you can upload up to 10 at a time if you have the paid version) and ask:

ā€œBased on these resumes, what roles am I best suited for in today’s market? Please list role families and sample job titles, including both traditional and emerging roles.ā€

This will help surface job families that align with your experience, even some you might’ve overlooked.

Step 2: Validate with Market Trends

Next, head to the recently published LinkedIn Workforce Report and review the current data. What roles and skills are companies actively hiring for right now in your region or industry? There’s a wealth of information here, so don’t miss out on it.

This isn’t guesswork—it’s strategy. And it starts with understanding where you stand in today’s market.

šŸ…° ABILITY: Apply Your Strategy with Precision

Clarity is only half the battle. Once you know where you fit, you’ve got to make it evident to everyone else.

āœ… Checklist: Ability

  • Rewrite your LinkedIn profile like a landing page. A fresh headline and summary matter! šŸ’»
  • Choose the right resume format for your target industry: hybrid for fast-paced environments, chronological for traditional ones. šŸ”€
  • Add metrics that prove business impact, not just task descriptions. šŸ”¢
  • Align your outreach to hot leads—internal contacts who will advocate for you, not just refer you. šŸ”„

Step 1: Refine Your Story Across Channels

Ensure that your resume, LinkedIn profile, and networking pitch all convey the same clear, focused story.

Step 2: Lead With Results, Not Responsibilities

Use real outcomes and metrics to show what you accomplished, not just what you were assigned.

Treat your LinkedIn like a live pitch deck—not an archaeological dig.

šŸ† REINFORCEMENT: Keep Evaluating, Refining, and Repeating

This isn’t a one-time adjustment. The job search is an iterative process, and each step provides valuable data. Use it.

āœ… Checklist: Reinforcement

  • Track what’s working: where interviews are coming from, what's landing. šŸ›¤
  • Reflect after every interview—did this feel aligned with your goals? šŸ¤”
  • Tweak your resume, LinkedIn profile, and outreach efforts weekly, at a minimum. āœļø
  • Don’t ignore your intuition—it’s not just a feeling; it’s feedback. ✨

Step 1: Build a Weekly Feedback Loop

Make time every week to look over your progress. Are you getting closer to the roles you want—or just staying busy?

Step 2: Adjust Without Losing Momentum

Small pivots can lead to big breakthroughs. Reinforcement is about noticing what works and being willing to change, even in the midst of a search.

Reinforcement isn’t about perfection. It’s about persistence with insight.

šŸ’¬ Final Word: Keep Going, But Change How It's Going

Listen, here’s the deal—I wake up every day and think about this job market and the dystopian hellscape that it is. And judging from what I see in my LinkedIn feeds, I know that I am not alone.

Mass layoffs. Mysterious hiring freezes. Ghosting at scale. It’s no wonder so many of us feel exhausted on both sides of the hiring table.

But if you’re actively searching, don’t let the chaos steal your clarity.

You are not your last layoff. You are not your resume. You are not your last rejection email. You are your story. You are your insight. You are the one leading this change.

Sometimes things get off track, but that’s okay—

You can build a new one.✨

This is great, Shay. I agree that it is important to continuously update your LinkedIn page! As we each go through our career journey, rarely is the path linear. There may be components of your role that made sense to call out when you were going in one direction, and then as you learn more about yourself and your "sweet" spot of work orientation, realize you might have buried that in role details previously. Your work story can continuously unfold in ways that map to who you are today, while still accurately reflecting on what you achieved. Thanks for sharing this.
