AAIB June Bulletin
Welcome to the Air Accidents Investigation Branch Bulletin, a monthly compilation of AAIB investigations and news from the AAIB.
The June Bulletin includes one field investigation, two correspondence investigations and ten record-only investigations. They detail safety action that has been taken as a result of our investigations to improve aviation safety. Information on the types of reporting by the AAIB can be found on the website.
AAIB publishes Annual Safety Review 2024
We have published our Annual Safety Review which provides an overview of our activity during 2024 including investigations opened, reports published and the safety recommendations made, together with the safety action taken or planned in response to investigations concluded in 2024.
In this year’s Annual Safety Review we also take a closer look at the categorisation of accidents and incidents and the themes that emerged during 2024 in passenger transport events, general aviation fatal accidents and UAS events.

Commercial Air Transport – Rotorcraft
Rotor blades failure
The rotor blades of an Airbus Helicopters EC175 B (G-MCSH) failed whilst the aircraft was parked in strong winds with an unserviceable rotor brake on the Elgin Oil Platform, North Sea on 17 February 2023.
General Aviation
Loss of rudder control in-flight
A Cessna 152 (G-BSZW) lost rudder control in flight at Blackbushe Airport, Hampshire on 24 February 2024.
Crashed whilst attempting to land
A Rans S6-ESD XL (G-MZBU) crashed whilst attempting to land at Yatesbury Airfield, Wiltshire on 30 March 2024.
Air India flight AI171
The UK Air Accidents Investigation Branch (AAIB) has assumed the role of an ‘Expert’ in the India AAIB investigation into the tragic accident which occurred in Ahmedabad, India on 12 June 2025. Read more about the AAIB’s role in aircraft accidents and serious incidents overseas here.
