Accelerate Action with Stephanie Glover: Celebrating Inspiring Women on #IWD2025
In celebration of International Women's Day 2025, we were honoured to host a group of inspiring women from our network who shared their remarkable stories and experiences. Their insights not only highlighted the strides made but also underscored the urgency to "Accelerate Action" towards gender equality—a journey that, at the current pace, may take until 2158 to achieve.
Hear from Stephanie Glover from Guernsey Finance .
Can you tell us about yourself and your career journey so far?
I moved to Guernsey straight out of university, where I studied Philosophy, Religion, and Ethics at King’s College London. I worked in fund administration and consulting, which provided me with a foundation in financial services. My career took an exciting turn when I attended a Guernsey Finance event, where a United Nations speaker shared inspiring insights on the work Guernsey was doing for sustainability and climate change. This inspired me to combine my financial services experience with my passion for sustainability, and in 2020, I joined Guernsey Finance as a Green Finance Manager. I am now the Strategy and Sustainable Finance Director for Guernsey Finance.
What has been your proudest achievement so far since joining Guernsey Finance?
I have so many ‘pinch-me’ moments from working with Guernsey Finance. After being inspired by seeing speakers from the United Nations, getting to represent Guernsey at the UN Financial Centres for Sustainability was an honour. I’ve also had the opportunity to represent Guernsey at international sustainability conferences like COPs and New York Climate Week. Presenting sustainable finance leaders to His Majesty King Charles III during his visit to Guernsey last year was also certainly a proud moment for me and for Guernsey.
What is the greatest advice you have been given?
Early in my career, someone told me to come to the table with solutions, not problems. This advice pushed me to think proactively and critically, and to take ownership of challenges. It’s shaped how I approach my work and has been instrumental in developing my leadership style.
Which women inspire you the most and why?
I’m constantly inspired by the brilliant women I work with at Guernsey Finance, who are all experts and professionals in their own field and take huge pride in their work. From integrating AI into our promotional work to developing new digital and editorial communication channels, and running hugely complicated and world leading events, and supporting the running of the entire global GF office, the women at GF constantly push themselves and work with our values for the betterment of Guernsey.
Additionally, following the Olympics, I’ve been hugely inspired by Ilona Maher, an American rugby union player. Ilona breaks stereotypes about femininity in sports showing that you can be strong, powerful, take up space and still embrace your femininity.
What ways are you committed to accelerating action? (Advancing and celebrating women’s equality worldwide)
At Guernsey Finance, we were proud to sign the UN Gender Charter, and we are actively working to improve diversity and representation in our promotional work. The men in my team have been fantastic advocates for accelerating diversity and inclusion, and I’ve found that combining the efforts of both women and men is the most effective way to create change and accelerate action.
I’m proud to collaborate with the Sustainable Finance Guernsey Council, which brings together a diverse group of financial professionals working to promote sustainable finance practices and address the intersection of sustainability and women’s equality.
Do you have any advice you would give to other women starting out in the industry?
From the outside the finance industry can seem male dominated and masculine, but my experience has been that the finance industry in Guernsey, and particularly the sustainable finance industry is full of supportive passionate people who want to encourage more diverse voices and perspectives into the industry. My advice is to find mentors and leaders, especially women, who you can learn from and who will help guide your career. Having a strong network of support and staying true to your values will help you thrive in the industry.
