Advancing Sustainability Through Collective Action

Advancing Sustainability Through Collective Action

Here’s a look at how VFS Global’s ESG pillars came to life from January to March 2025.

PILLAR 1: SUPPORTING OUR COMMUNITIES

Our community initiatives this quarter focused on promoting education, advancing youth skilling, and empowering women, reinforcing our commitment to inclusive and sustainable development.

Launching a Youth Empowerment Initiative in Thailand

VFS Global launched its first community programme in Thailand in partnership with the EDF Foundation, reflecting our commitment to promoting education and youth empowerment through sustainable, locally-aligned programmes.

Through our Empowering Youth for a Sustainable Future initiative, 8 schools in Chachoengsao province received grants to support student-led enterprise projects. This monetary support will allow them to train over 1,900 students in essential entrepreneurial skills, advancing youth empowerment, and, in turn, contributing to the economic resilience of their families through sustainable livelihoods.

An official ceremony was held in February to present the grant fund to the schools. It was attended by the Deputy Director of Education of Chachoengsao province, and students got the opportunity to present their projects.

Culmination of ‘Power of One’ Programme in India

In collaboration with PVR Nest and the Municipal Corporation of Delhi, VFS Global helped bring Garima Grih (Pink Centres) to life, designed to be safe, vibrant spaces for women in underserved urban communities.

Over six months and through intensive leadership training, 11 committed community cohort leaders were equipped to influence and uplift over 5,000 women through behavioural change interventions. This effort also paved the way for 500 women to gain the skills and resources needed to start home-based businesses, while others were able to join the formal workforce across various industries in New Delhi.

This initiative reinforced our long-term commitment to inclusive development and sustainable impact. These journeys were honoured with the premiere of the Power of One film on International Women’s Day, where Mitali Namchoong, Director of Women and Child Development - New Delhi, reflected on the programme’s meaningful impact on urban communities.

PILLAR 2: CARING FOR THE ENVIRONMENT

This quarter, we supported a student-led innovation that aligns with our commitment to reducing our environmental footprint by transforming plastic waste into clean energy solutions for high-footfall urban spaces.

Piloting a Student-Led Sustainability Innovation in Vietnam

Joining hands with VinUniversity, we supported the co-creation of Dynapath, an innovative student-led project that transforms plastic waste into high-performance kinetic tiles capable of generating electricity through foot traffic. The proof-of-concept was launched at our Visa Application Centre in Hanoi, Vietnam, with VFS Global providing funding and implementation support to help scale the initiative to other high-traffic locations such as airports and hotels.

By turning everyday movement into renewable energy, the project not only reduces plastic pollution but also raises awareness about clean energy and sustainable design.

This collaboration reflects our commitment to reducing environmental impact and supporting forward-thinking solutions that contribute to climate resilience in the communities where we operate.
