AE Faces | Episode 6: Engineering Vision into Solar Impact

Some career paths follow a straight line—others evolve from curiosity, creativity, and a willingness to start something new. For José Luis Montoya Posada , it was the latter.

Before joining AESOLAR, Jose spent nearly a decade building a company focused on advanced composite materials. With a mechanical engineering background and a passion for invention, he developed solutions for transport, architecture, and even a proprietary laminated glass manufacturing process. But in 2020, something shifted. During the pandemic, Jose dove headfirst into renewable energy innovation, developing photovoltaic tile prototypes and exploring clean energy solutions in wave, biomass, and kinetic sources.“I realized the structure of a solar panel wasn’t so different from the materials I’d worked with—glass, lamination, encapsulants. That connection sparked my curiosity.”

His motivation? Simple but powerful: “These aren’t inert materials. They generate value—environmental, social, and also economic.”

Culture, Curiosity, and Connection

Jose officially joined AESOLAR in 2022 after a chance encounter at the Exposolar event in Medellín. There, he met the company’s former LATAM director and shared his work. That conversation turned into an opportunity—and a new chapter. What makes AESOLAR stand out, in his eyes, is the company’s unwavering commitment to quality, service, and innovation.

“It’s not just about numbers or installed megawatts,” he says. “It’s about doing things the right way. When you believe in the value of what you're offering, marketing and sales become more human. It’s about connecting.”

Today, Jose is an integral voice in AESOLAR’s growth across Latin America, helping clients not just choose solar modules —but make informed, future-proof energy investments. And it’s that human connection that continues to motivate Jose every day—whether he's advising a customer, leading a discussion, or crafting a new approach to the market.

Learning, Leading, and Sharing the Journey

In his early days, Jose focused on absorbing everything about the solar industry. Now, nearly three years in, he shares that knowledge with clients and colleagues alike.“I started by learning from others in the company and in the market. Now, I get to contribute, joining strategic discussions, sharing insights from my region, and helping shape our collective vision.”

If he could speak to his younger self, his advice would be simple: stay curious and aim higher. “You don’t need all the answers right away. Just keep striving for more impact, more knowledge, more connection.”

A Life Lived with Energy

Outside of the office, Jose is nothing short of multitalented. From a 14-year run as a symphonic percussionist to mountain biking in the Colombian Andes, kayaking coastal waters, inventing new systems, or sketching ideas by hand—his hobbies reflect a life lived with intensity and joy. “Music taught me how every voice in a symphony matters. Sports keep me humble. Inventing is my way of leaving a legacy. It all feeds into how I see the world—and how I work.”

With two patents granted and two more pending, Jose is always looking for the next challenge, the next creative solution—whether on the field or in a customer meeting.

What Drives Him Forward

Jose is clear about his motivation: A dream shared by many at AESOLAR: to leave things better than he found them. “Before my time is up, I want to know that I’ve created something useful—something that will outlive me. That’s my dream. And that’s why I work with such fervor.”

And in the years ahead? Jose hopes to AESOLAR brand becomes stronger, more recognizable, and more trusted. That the promises we make—about performance, about durability—are proven again and again in the real world.

At AESOLAR, we believe people like Jose bring more than expertise—they bring heart, perspective, and a relentless drive to build a better future.
