Last week, I was talking with a few PeopleSoft consultants who’ve been in the field for 15+ years. Every single one said the same thing:
“AI is exciting—but it’s also unsettling.”
And I agree.
Some of the best folks in our field are quietly wondering:
Will PeopleSoft work stay relevant?
Will AI make some of our roles obsolete?
Will companies replace us with AI-enabled tools that do "just enough?"
You’re not alone if you’ve asked those questions.

The PeopleSoft Work That Will Outlast AI
Here’s the truth: AI can generate test cases. It can summarize documentation. It can refactor some SQL or suggest fluid layouts.
But it still can’t:
Translate HR and Finance policy nuance into configuration decisions
Translate PeopleSoft table logic into real-world policy decisions when HR or Finance doesn’t speak “record.field”
Spot downstream impacts across modules (like how a Job Data tweak disrupts Time & Labor or Commitment Accounting)
Diagnose performance issues that aren’t in the logs— but come from user behavior, customization bloat, or bad data habits
Design intuitive navigation and user experiences that work for your org—not just what the system delivers out of the box
Those are human skills. And they are your moat.
What Smart PeopleSoft Pros Are Doing Differently
1. They’re integrating AI, not fearing it
Instead of asking “Will AI replace me?” ask “How can I use it to move faster?”
The best PeopleSoft pros I know are:
Using ChatGPT to write shell PeopleCode and tune SQL
Drafting test scripts and job aids in minutes instead of hours
Asking AI to explain key changes from PUM Images
2. They’re investing in community
When tools change fast, your biggest advantage is your network.
Who do you call when a security patch goes sideways?
Who shows you how to use OCI Cloud Manager step by step?
Who helps you find your next contract before your current one ends?
PeopleSoft is more than a system—it’s a network of pros who’ve seen it all. Stay connected.
3. They’re focusing on outcomes, not tasks
The developers and analysts who rise fast in this new era:
Don’t just write queries—they show how those queries reduce error rates
Don’t just deploy Fluid pages—they explain how they improved usability
Don’t just do change requests—they track the business impact
That’s how you prove value that no AI tool can match.
How to Future-Proof Your PeopleSoft Career From AI
Audit your week: Are you solving real problems or doing repeatable tasks? Automate or delegate the latter.
Make your work visible: Post your wins. Share the story behind that configuration fix. Tell others how you cleaned up that messy COBOL process.
Keep learning: If you haven’t touched Insights, Configuration Framework, or Cloud Manager yet—this is your sign.
Give back: Answer one question a week in your favorite community. Mentor someone who’s just getting started. You build credibility and karma.
How to Find Your Human Edge
If you're worried about AI, here are some questions to ask yourself. They're not easy to answer, but they're important to consider.
What parts of your career require human qualities like intuition, judgment, and emotional intelligence?
Where do you provide value through relationships and trust instead of just knowledge?
What experience do you have that is so contextual and personal that it'd be nearly impossible to simulate?
What part(s) of your career would benefit from a stronger human connection?
Your answers to these questions should illuminate some important parts to focus on in your PeopleSoft Career, and maybe some new opportunities you haven’t considered.
The Bottom Line
AI is coming to ERP and PeopleSoft. And yes, it will shake some things up.
But the PeopleSoft pros who combine technical skill, real-world intuition, and strong community ties? They’re not going anywhere.
The PeopleSoft future isn’t just technical. It’s relational. Strategic. Collaborative.
