Delighted to welcome Amazon Project Kuiper to AIFC! This week, a high-level delegation from Amazon Kuiper, led by Lisa Scalpone, Director of Worldwide Consumer, arrived in Kazakhstan. During their visit to the Astana International Financial Centre, we discussed the expansion of internet access in Kazakhstan and their collaboration with the Ministry of Digital, Innovations & Aerospace. Amazon Kuiper has registered Amazon Kuiper Kazakhstan Limited within the AIFC jurisdiction to provide internet access to customers in our country.

I-REC Renewable Energy Certificates Trading Launched on AIX    The first transaction involved the purchase of 1,000 I-REC certificates by the London-based trading firm Valor Carbon from Kazakhstan’s renewable energy producer Samruk-Green Energy.    I-REC is one of the global leaders in the voluntary renewable energy certificate market, operating in over 50 countries. These certificates confirm that electricity has been generated from renewable sources. The certificates verified by ECOJER Association were added to AIX’s suite of sustainable finance products in September 2024, becoming the first environmental instruments on the exchange.    President of IACA Pamela Harris Met with Kassym-Jomart Tokayev 

On February 27, 2025, President of Kazakhstan Kassym-Jomart Tokayev met with Pamela Harris, President of the International Association for Court Administration (IACA), Zakon.kz reports. 

Tokayev congratulated Harris on her appointment and expressed confidence that her experience would give new momentum to the organization’s work. He emphasized the importance of the rule of law and judicial reforms in building a legal state. 

Harris, in turn, praised Kazakhstan’s legal reforms and expressed readiness for continued cooperation.

Hunnu Air Plans Direct Flights Between Ulaanbaatar and Tashkent 

Mongolian airline Hunnu Air is considering launching direct passenger flights between Ulaanbaatar and Tashkent in the second half of 2025, using Embraer 190 aircraft, reports MiddleAsianNews

Uzbekistan Airports discussed potential cooperation with Hunnu Air, following a 2024 agreement on air travel between Mongolia and Uzbekistan, initiated by Presidents Khurelsukh Ukhnaa and Shavkat Mirziyoyev. 

Hunnu Air, a private airline based in Ulaanbaatar’s Chinggis Khaan Airport, operates domestic and international flights with ATR 72-500 and Embraer 190 aircraft.

Tajikistan's National Bank Reports Growth in Islamic Banking 

The number of financial institutions seeking licenses from Tajikistan’s National Bank, including for Islamic banking, is increasing. 

During a meeting with Malaysian Ambassador Ilhom Tuah Ilyas, National Bank Chairman Firdavs Tolibzoda highlighted expanding Tajikistan-Malaysia trade and economic ties. He proposed deeper cooperation between the countries' banking systems and welcomed foreign investment in Tajikistan’s financial sector. 

Tolibzoda emphasized that favorable legal conditions have been created to support foreign banks, branches, and subsidiaries in the country.

Kyrgyzstan and Turkmenistan Discuss Transport and Logistics Cooperation 

Kyrgyz President Sadyr Japarov met with Turkmenistan’s Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Rashid Meredov to discuss trade, economic, and transport-logistics cooperation, Trend reports. 

The leaders reviewed collaboration in energy and logistics, highlighting positive trade dynamics. Japarov reaffirmed Kyrgyzstan’s commitment to strengthening ties and thanked Turkmenistan for energy supply cooperation. 

They also discussed cultural and humanitarian relations and joint efforts on multilateral platforms to address regional challenges.

Iran Focuses on Oil Exploration in Border Areas 

Iran’s National Oil Company is prioritizing oil field exploration in border regions, said Moheddin Jafari, director at the company, during the 3rd Petrotek conference in Tehran. 

He emphasized accelerating oil and gas exploration using AI technologies but noted a low 7% chance of discovering major new fields like Azadegan. Jafari also highlighted the mining sector’s urgent need for modern technology. 

Currently, Iran has 74 oil and 22 gas fields, with key operations in the southern and central regions, as well as offshore. The country holds 1.2 trillion barrels of hydrocarbon reserves, with an estimated 340 billion barrels recoverable using existing technology.
