All things assessment this April

Hello and welcome to the April edition of The Assessment Network's monthly learning update.

Next Tuesday (29 April), we kick off our two-day assessment extravaganza, Assessment Horizons 2025!

You still have time to join us for Assessment Horizons

Bookings for in-person tickets have closed, but you can still join us online for Assessment Horizons 2025.

Members of The Assessment Network can attend the conference online for free and receive a recording of the event.

To find out more about becoming a member and the other great benefits you'll receive upon joining click here.

We have two brand new workshops on Assessment and AI

We've had a number of requests from schools and assessment practitioners who are eager to learn more about the ways in which AI may be used in creating assessments, how it can be done ethically and what the implications of its use could have on validity.

To help support you in understanding the applications of this tool, we've launched a standalone online workshop and an online workshop series, now open for booking:

Authentic assessment in the age of AI: how to meaningfully incorporate AI into your assessments

This two-hour workshop takes place on 14 May and is aimed at anyone looking to incorporate the use of generative AI within their assessments.

Designing assessments with AI

A series of three two-hour workshops beginning 03 June and offering a more in-depth look at creating assessments with AI and managing workflows.

Whether you are new to AI or have limited experience, this series will provide the essential knowledge and skills to integrate AI into your assessment design effectively. Participants will need access to an AI tool throughout the workshop series.

Postgraduate Advanced Certificate: Information Webinar with Q and A

Don't miss out on the opportunity to quiz Course Director Dr Simon Child about the Postgraduate Advanced Certificate in Educational Studies: Educational Assessment.

We're holding a drop in webinar on 07 May at 12:00 UK time, sign up here to attend live or to make sure you receive a recording of the event if you cannot make it at that time.

If you haven't already, you can download the brochure for the upcoming academic year.

PGCA graduate Christopher Quach shares his experience with the course

Christopher Quach is a Secondary School Head Teacher who completed the Postgraduate Advanced Certificate in Educational Assessment in 2021.

In this short video, he shares his experience with the course and explains why he would recommend it to others.

Catch up on a recent webinar from our research division

Our research division recently held a free webinar exploring two projects that consider how we balance the need for valid and reliable assessment outcomes against the potential burden on candidates.

You can now watch the presentations from Tom Benton and Tim Gill on our YouTube channel.

James Beadle appears on 'Obsessed with Assessment'

Senior Professional Development Manager James Beadle was recently a guest on Twinkl Educational Publishing's Obsessed with Assessment podcast.

James joined host Sam Denno to discuss formative and summative assessment, what they set out to achieve, and how intelligent questioning can ensure that we optimise the functionality of both forms.

You can watch the episode on YouTube or find the Obsessed with Assessment podcast on Spotify, Amazon, or Apple.

Thank you for joining us this month. We hope to see you next week, either here in Cambridge or online for Assessment Horizons 2025!

I beg your pardon, but I have a request for you. This is a little off-topic, but I am conducting a survey for an article on recent changes in reported speech (more precisely, changes in the sequence of tenses) and I would like to invite you to participate: https://docs.google.com/forms/d/e/1FAIpQLSdZyrCgN4Tnvt-bTo8psdyAAa9acJarQKyj-2femPxAbocqIw/viewform (Even if you do not notice such changes, you are invited to participate.) Thank you very much in advance.
