Around the IT Block podcast has moved

I've been podcasting for a long time - it's been about 12 years. The original name of my podcast was Around the Storage Block (ATSB) and that aligned with the blog I wrote and managed on hpe.com. I had published around 280 ATSB podcasts.

Changing the name and the focus

Times change and over the last couple of years, I broadened my focus to more than storage. So at the beginning of 2021, the name of my podcast changed to Around the IT Block and I started with podcast #1. Not long after I did that, I was asked if I wanted to make my podcast an "official" HPE podcast. So bring on more change - why not?

Moving the podcast to a new hosting service

Until now, I used TalkShoe.com as the hosting service for my podcast. That was becoming a bit of an issue as they have now started to insert ads into the podcast. I never did understand how they could make money by hosting thousands of hours of audio for free and I guess they figured out they need to monetize podcasts. The change to an official HPE podcast is a welcome one because I can move off TalkShoe and not have ads injected into the beginning and end of my podcast.

Here's the new home for Around the IT Block podcast

With the move to an official HPE Podcast, the new hosting service is called transistor.fm. Like every other hosting service, there's an RSS feed that you can use to either access the podcasts or other services use to syndicate the podcast.

Here's the URL for the Transistor.fm RSS feed. I'm also working to have the podcast on other services. Here's where you can subscribe to it as of now:

A few more things

I had published 13 Around the IT Block podcast episodes on TalkShoe in 2021. Most of them are still very relevant so I'm redoing all but a couple of them with new intro and outros to reflect what's changed and re-publishing them as part of the move to be an official HPE podcast. The episodes you can listen to are:

This is the complete list of current podcasts - to get new ones, be sure you subscribe to it.

I'm excited to have an official HPE podcast. Be sure to subscribe to it and if you have a favorite place to get your podcasts, let me know and I'll see if I can add it. Hopefully iTunes and Pandora will be approved shortly and I'll add those to the list as soon as they are.

Lastly, since the podcast on TalkShoe was the same name, be sure what you subscribe to is using the graphics I've used in this post. The "old" TalkShoe podcast used an image of me wearing a fedora so it's easy to see the difference. I plan to remove the TalkShoe podcasts soon after I do one last podcast on TalkShoe letting everyone know of the changes, which I published on October 7th.

Congrats Calvin, love the new identity too 👍
