Is Articulate Storyline 360 Outdated? Or Are We Using It Wrong?
For years, Articulate Storyline 360 has been a trusted tool for eLearning development, celebrated for its flexibility, interactivity, and powerful authoring capabilities. At Inelso, we are using Storyline as our main authoring tool! Yet, as new technologies emerge and learning trends evolve, some instructional designers question whether Storyline 360 is becoming outdated. In 2025, most people are used to scrolling through the content (yeah, I am looking at you “social media”) and most of the Storyline courses are using navigation with classic buttons. I believe we have a strong case here, don’t we?
The truth is, it’s not the tool that’s outdated—it’s how we use it that determines its effectiveness!
Why does Storyline 360 still stand out?
The Real Challenge is rethinking our approach!
Rather than dismissing Storyline as outdated, instructional designers should focus on modernizing their approach to using it effectively. This means:
Storyline 360 is far from obsolete—it continues to be a top-tier eLearning development tool. The key is not to abandon it but to evolve how we use it to meet the needs of today’s learners.
What’s your take? Are you maximizing Storyline’s capabilities, or do you see a shift happening? Let’s discuss!

5moIt is a great tool for interactive/custom development but fully delivering a fully responsive project remains a challenge. People look to web, where responsive development tools and versions are now widely available. But, interactive media still often has mobile only or PC/mac versions. the point you make about developing is important - especially if you are thinking about the platforms that you developing for.
