authentiCITY - Welcome Home!
Bottom Line Up Front - If life is not quite what you want it to be right now, you are not alone. Whether it is personal, professional, or an aspect that touches both, there is likely a thing or two you wish was different. Perfectionism. People pleasing. Numbing with alcohol. Emotional immaturity. Masking. (Insert many others.) These are some of the challenges I have faced recently. Can you relate to any of these? Take it from my mistakes, it is time to call it out and be true to you.
With the help of therapy (which I recommend if you are able), my current path in dealing with these is to stop hiding and try to have just one authentic version of myself. One version, rather than:
the buttoned-up professional version displayed to the world, and then a separate personal side ridden with guilt and shame.
the confident achiever, yet the one that needs constant external validation.
the seemingly great husband and father, but also one sneaking drinks when no one is looking.
the one who says he doesn’t care what others think but is paralyzed by fear of dancing in public because he might look silly.
the one who has been recognized for great communication skills, but can’t express his emotions if his life depended on it.
the one that preaches purpose and peace, yet is living life on the proverbial hamster wheel.
It is all too exhausting. I am after the simpler path…just one, aligned, authentic version. One.
Does any of this sound familiar? If so, please join me and let's travel this path together. The first step on the journey is to become the Mayor of You. I have accepted the election results. I am announcing proudly and authentically that I will be serving as the Mayor of the best version of ME thus far, and will work hard to get re-elected for my future best self. I plan to continue to be kind to others AND myself. I am going to drop the self-judgment and hate. I want to live loudly, love big, and serve proudly. I plan to be authentically who I was uniquely created to be, so I can bask in the ultimate level of personal and professional success, as defined by… ME!
Do you accept your calling to be the Mayor of the next version of you??? If so, I would love to hear your acceptance speech!!! Let’s build AuthentiCITY from the ground up.
Kevin
PS: I will be following this up with more posts. I want to share personal and professional development resources I have been learning along my journey including therapy, podcasts, books, apps, and of course, hard knocks. I have not defined the exact cadence of these yet because, well, that would likely feed the perfectionist side of me. Rather, I felt the push to get started today with this one…and let’s see where it goes. Stay tuned for more to come…
