Avoid the cliché announcement

Avoid the cliché announcement

Hi Reader,

Have you ever wanted to announce something exciting on LinkedIn but wanted to avoid the clichés we normally see? The phrases "I'm excited to announce…" or "I'm humbled to share…" have been described as humble brags that can make the platform a bit cringe-worthy at times.

💡 Tip of the Day

Craft a unique announcement instead of falling back on default announcement text. Sharing a bit of your journey or passion will instantly make your news more engaging and personal. Here are some example scripts you can use for your next announcement. ⤵ Instead of “I’m excited to announce!”, you might say:

“I’ve been working in this industry for [X years] and it’s been a dream of mine to become a manager. So happy it’s finally happened!”

Or, if your path was a bit unconventional:

“It wasn’t always an obvious path to get here. I started my career in [X] and ended up in [Y]. By honing my skills in [A, B, C], I’ve been able to reach a new career milestone: [milestone].”

If you’re being invited to speak somewhere: Instead of “I’m humbled to be invited to speak...”, try this:

“I’ve always been passionate about [X, Y, Z topics]. Ever since [story], I’ve made it my mission to learn everything I can. Now I can’t wait to bring that knowledge to the [conference], where I’ll be talking about [topic].”

Remember: Your presence (how and where others see you) is built up over time through every touch point. Don’t miss this opportunity to share a little more context so others can learn more about you.

Showing a bit of BTS or journey as part of the announcement makes it less cringy and more receptive, Lorraine. Helpful scripts!
