Before It’s Too Late: Why Middle School Intervention Is Critical
Intervention can’t wait until high school. By then, it’s often too late.
Middle school is one of the most critical—and overlooked—points for intervention. It’s a time when students are transitioning academically, emotionally, and socially. While their challenges may not be as visible as those of high school students, they’re just as urgent.
📉 Research shows that declining achievement and engagement in middle school can have lasting impacts:
Middle schoolers who struggle academically are more likely to fall off track in high school.
Early signs of disengagement, like chronic absenteeism, often begin in middle grades.
Students without access to appropriate supports in middle school may lose confidence and motivation just when the stakes begin to rise.
🎯 So, what can educators do?
The key is proactive, personalized intervention—not waiting for students to fail but identifying needs early and meeting them with targeted support. That’s where programs like Edmentum Exact Path come in, offering real-time data, scaffolding, and skills-based instruction that meets students right where they are.

2moI would agree. I love using Edmentum’s exact path feature to zero in on gaps that students have. They have four lessons that they must complete each month and I use it to drive targeted small group instruction that works.
