“The Best Interactive Experience So Far” – Why UoL Students Love Virtual Group Careers Coaching Sessions

By Sophie Odgers-Roe 👩🏻🏫 , Careers Consultant, University of London Careers Service

Are you navigating a career change, entering a new sector, or wondering how to make your CV stand out after a break from working? You’re not alone, and you don’t have to figure it all out by yourself.

Our Virtual Group Careers Coaching sessions are designed to bring together students and recent graduates from across the University of London global programmes to share experiences, ask questions, and learn from each other in a supportive, expert-led environment.

🔎 What Makes These Sessions Useful?

Here’s what students have told us they value most:

  • Learning from diverse perspectives: Our students come from a wide range of industries, countries, and career stages. Whether you're a career starter, developer, or changer, hearing how others approach their challenges can spark new ideas and strategies for your own journey.
  • Building confidence through shared experience: Realising that others face similar questions: like how to break into a new field or how to talk about a career gap, can be incredibly reassuring.
  • Guidance from an experienced Careers Consultant: Each session is facilitated by a qualified University of London Careers Consultant who helps guide the conversation, offer insights, and connect you with the right resources.
  • Ask anything in a way that works for you: Sessions are unrecorded, and you’re welcome to join for just part of the hour. You can even submit your questions anonymously if you prefer.

💬 What Your Fellow UoL Students & Recent Graduates Say

  • "This has been the best interactive experience so far!"
  • “During the Virtual Group Careers Coaching session, you shared a Dubai LinkedIn group with me. After joining it, I came across a conference happening in my city and registered for it. It's a big networking opportunity and helped me network and gain insights into a reputable firm. I would like to thank you so much for this”

❓ Some Common Questions That Come Up

Here are a few of the questions students have brought to past group coaching sessions:

  • "How do I transition into a new sector with no direct experience?"
  • "What’s the best way to talk about a career break on my CV?"
  • "How can I make my LinkedIn profile stand out?"
  • "I’m overwhelmed by options- how do I choose the right path?"

There’s no need to have a specific goal or question to join. Whether you want to listen in or share your experience, you’re welcome.
