The Best Way to Get Help From Customer Service!
This one is simple and short. Because we all have things to do.
The best way to get help from customer service, no matter what the issue, is to ask in a specific way. But first... BREATHE. Take a breath and give it a second. Organize your thoughts. When you type in your request for customer service assistance, start with:
I am having an issue with...
Describe the issue in depth. Do this with a level head. Don't blame or get over heated because the human reading your request for help may just "shut down." You don't want that-- you want them to empathize with you. Explain it from your perspective. Explain your expectations and why the situation is failing to meet those expectations.
Would you be able to help me understand the error (or where this went wrong)? I also need to know the steps that I can take to help resolve this issue.
This is the request for help. "Help me understand where this went wrong" is so much more powerful than "YOU BROKE THIS. FIX ITTTTTTT!" Right? Also, included with your request to figure this out, you are also asking for what actionable steps that you can also take to resolve this issue. This means you're willing to work with them and the human reading your request will immediately feel more open to resolving this issue.
We all have customer service issues where things went wrong. The fact of the matter is that regardless of whose fault it is, you will need another human's assistance to remedy it. I have worked in the service of customers for many years and I know that there are things that I have to do (minimum) and there is a perfect world for the customer (maximum) and then there is this vast world of possibilities that I have the discretion to use to either help or hinder the situation. You want your response to grab that human on the other side of your request and help bring them to your side to use the tools in their discretion to HELP you get as close as possible to the maximum result.
Tell me in the comments-- what's your favorite way to elicit assistance from customer service! If you use this method, tell me how it worked out for you!
