Beyond the Pledge: Making Zero-Deforestation Measurable with Geospatial Data

Beyond the Pledge: Making Zero-Deforestation Measurable with Geospatial Data

One of the most persistent challenges Koltiva observes in global supply chains is the gap between bold sustainability pledges and the systems needed to uphold them. While zero-deforestation goals are now commonplace, a 2025 Forbes analysis reveals that only 30% of upstream companies and just 12% of downstream firms have traceability systems in place to monitor deforestation risks, despite the EUDR requiring compliance by the end of this year (Forbes, 2025). This disconnect underscores a critical issue: without the infrastructure to verify sourcing and land-use change at scale, even the most well-intentioned commitments risk falling short.

In this issue, we spotlight key topics to help businesses navigate practical insights into how advanced monitoring tools empower companies to take a proactive approach in managing deforestation risks.

To deepen the insight, our upcoming webinar, Mapping Sustainability: Leveraging Geospatial Intelligence for Traceable Supply Chains, will bring together industry experts to share how these technologies can be effectively implemented, offering attendees actionable strategies to improve transparency and strengthen supply chain resilience.

To deepen these insights and translate them into practical strategies, our next BeyondTraceability Talks webinar series will bring the conversation from theory to implementation.

💬 Join us for an engaging session with Anne Rosenbarger from the World Resources Institute (WRI). Anne will share actionable insights on transforming forest monitoring data into effective business practices, blending advanced technology with on-the-ground engagement, and striking a balance between compliance and support for smallholder producers.

💡 By the end of the session, you will gain practical insights into:

  • Insightful examples on integrating forest monitoring tools into business operations.

  • Strategies for aligning compliance with responsible sourcing and smallholder inclusion.

  • A practical look at how data-driven traceability can reduce risk and build long-term resilience.
