BigFix helps, even with gaming
So my kids are into gaming and it's safe to say the apple doesn't fall far from the tree. This however presents it's own complexities especially since here in OZ as it's holiday season, and there is much time to be had in front of the computer.
My oldest came to me today with the issue. Dad, my computer is out of space and I have to constantly delete games to make way for new ones. My other one then chimed in, hey Dad, I have the same issue too.
Luckily for me BigFix was there to help. Let's jump into BigFix and see what we can see I said. I have an analysis that I already have activated which tells me the free space in GB, as well as the percentage free, plus the total space for all Windows drives. For those that may be interested it is the following relevance which you can use as a property:
(names of it,(free space of it/1024/1024/1024) as string &"GB",(total space of it/1024/1024/1024) as string & "GB",(100*free space of it/total space of it) as string &"%25") of(drives whose(type of it="DRIVE_FIXED"))
I was easily able to identify that both had indeed very limited storage. It even made me laugh when I saw the younger one's computer. I mean a 300GB HDD, that is just mean.
Lucky for them I was then able to find some spare spinning rust I had lying around to facilitate an upgrade. BigFix to the rescue!
It hasn't always been like this for my kids however. At times in their lives they have had a love hate relationship with BigFix, especially when I would do things like run a policy nightly that would enforce a shutdown on their computer, as well as auto shutdown if they attempted to login after bedtime. I have also been known to impose an infinite reboot loop if they were fighting.
That's what I love about BigFix, it can do almost anything your mind can imagine, and far more than just the usual patching, security, compliance and lifecycle stuff we know and love it for. Remember, BigFix can do that!
