Book Report: Uniquely U Update #52

You never know who will rise up. Angela presented at No Longer Virtual last year. You know what Shania Twain said. Am I not impressed by facilitators because I have never been given the opportunity?

There are people who are afraid that my presentation will get all the women pregnant. With my words? I'm not impregnating Angela. She has had children which was an icebreaker. We did not talk about the son she lost. That is devastating. She mentions the day she lost her son in a way that becomes shorthand like "9/11".

There is no way I could give this book a bad review. How awful a person would I be to say the trajectory of her journey to entrepreneurship was not fascinating? I am distracted by her use of "Bright-Eyed."

At least she wasn't smoking marijuana. I had contact lenses and my eyes were bloodshot. Many in the ninth grade thought I was stoned. No, I had contact lenses. People will think what they want.

The phrase "Bright eyed and bushy tailed" was used by many adults. Am I a rabbit? That would imply I am fast. I can move through a crowd quickly. Sprints- I don't come in last place. Closer to the bottom of the pack than the front.

Remember when this was a book report? There are showcases of members of the community which she created. This is not one of those "Make money in your sleep" communities.

That overused LinkedIn phrase is inaccurate. It implies you go to bed poor and wake up rich. You don't make money in your sleep. You make money all the time. Angela was appreciative and nicely surprised when people in other countries became members. You never know who is going to show up.

LinkedIn used to show where connections and followers lived; which countries. I have a large following in Singapore. Having followers in India and Pakistan made me feel that somehow I was bringing the world together.

Now it's all about impressions. I won't recall impressions the way I think of connections in Africa which I have yet to visit. These mostly weekly updates (if there were a delay it was explained and Angela apologized.) show the advancement and the beginning of a journey.

Does this make her a thought leader? That's a BS title. Reconnecting with Dana Scardano whom she knew in college helped her. Social media has some benefits. Before social media there was a game of "Whatever became of?" regarding classmates and former colleagues.

Some remain a mystery. Others are back in my life. The consistent ones stand out. They were consistent then and are consistent now. I did not meet any high school liberals who sold their souls to Fox News. Thankfully, no ex smokers act like present day cigarette smokers are killing them.

They had their fun. Now no one else is allowed to enjoy a foolish vice. I was not part of this community. It's a good one. Watching it go from an idea to actual company- near the end of the book she revisits the journey.

George Carlin could not watch the first episode of Saturday Night Live. Not because he wasn't funny in the monologues. He could only think of how much cocaine he was doing at the time. I don't see his offscreen habits in this performance.

Angela reread some of the early emails and was reminded of what was happening in her life. it isn't impostor syndrome. Sometimes the tumult behind the scenes overtakes the success of the moment. Enjoy the success. I cannot say when I shall next see or speak to Angela.

Should we go to an Islanders game? I have never been to Long Island. I have a cousin whom is wonderful living in that area. The journey in this book- from the root to the fruit- is a good one.

Men on this site talk about their "Ten million dollar businesses". Built on ideas women had that they lifted. Women start their businesses and do what they can. I did notice that members of the community were allowed to make videos. If they received enough views they would be compensated. They probably made more than established musicians make on Spotify.

The idea came from a coaching session. Angela used coaching as a springboard. Some seem to go to coaches for the rest of their lives. Just go for a PhD if you are always going to be a student. She taught me a lot and there is no one like her in the group where we met. Let's see where she goes next. It will be interesting and hopefully lucrative.

Thomas, thank you for taking the time to not only read my book but see my journey for what it was. I really appreciate you, and if you’re ever on Long Island visiting your cousin, please hit me up!
